| Could food have anything to do with litter #'s? Hi fellow breeders---I have a question for you. I have 4 breeding Yorkie females and 2 breeding Papillon females. I switched their food about 9 months ago to Nutro from Science Diet. Since then the Yorkies litters have all reduced significantly. Girls that had 4-5 each litter, have had 1 & 2 per litter. These are with 2 different studs of mine. The Papillons still continue to have 4-5 as they did before. Got any ideas--could it be the food? Anyone run into this? Thanks Jill

| I personally have a rule of thumb not to feed this to breeding females. Nutro is high in glucosamine and there have not been any long term tests to prove that it safe in diets for prego/nursing dogs. (The liquid Gluc. supplement I use even has that warning printed on the side.) Not sure if there is any connection w/ your situation. Just something to think about... |

| Thanks so much--I am just perplexed because Emma and Missy have always had either 4 or 5 in a litter and now they are having 1 & 2. Makes no sense to me. What do you feed your breeding females?

| Again, I responded to this thread in the breeder section. OP--maybe you should get ADMIN to close one or the other for sanity's sake? |

| Im breeding my female tomorrow and she's on Canidae right now...the lamb kind. She has itchy skin so I don't feed her chicken or corn. This will be her first litter on this dog food so we'll see what happens! |
