Help! I was feeding Taste of the Wild and Bella is now reacting to it, she did the same thing with royal Canin and I figured it was to much protein and TOTW is even more protein so I need to find something different. She has some nasty loose stools with a bit of blood in them. Because this happened when we switched to RC i'm not concerned as we had gone to the vet and ran the gamet of tests and nothing was wrong with her. As soon as we stopped feeding her it she was fine. I was using Blue Buffalo before TOTW and that was going ok but I wanted to go with something that didn't have any grains in it. Any opinions on a good quality food that doesn't have a wicked high % of protein, obviously I will probably have to deal with grains in this case which I suppose isn't to awful. TIA |
Jackie we feed and reall like Natural Balance small bites! http://www.naturalbalanceinc.com/ Good company that stands behind it's products! |
Remember to switch her over slowly too because a sudden switch in foods in itself, can cause bloody stools... |
I'm probably not much help. I give pepper Iams puppy food the dry kibble. My other two dogs are allergic to corn(you reeeallly don't want to give them corn) and iams suits them fine. I figure when she gets old enough for adult food they can all eat the same. When I first got pepper she was having stinky, i mean skinky loose stools. I started changing her over immediatly and noticed a difference within 2 poos. |
have you considered trying a canned grain-free food? I don't like the grain free dry myself...tried it once for my cats and they had diarrhea...I think it's important to have moisture in their diet. |
I don't know what I should do, last night I gave her some ceasars wet (I know its crap) knowing that she tolerates ok was my reasoning. She had diarhea (sp?) all over in her ex pen, while I was cleaning it all up she kept squatting to go more :( I'm going to withhold food for a little while to give her intestines a rest and I picked up some chicken and rice which is what got her system running good again after the Royal Canin episode. I'm unsure how to switch her to a new food though because I do NOT want to give her any of the stuff that she is getting sick on. Previous to Taste of the Wild we were feeding her Eukanuba and she did well on it but I found out about there testing on animals and that is really why I switched. Since I was switching I went with a 6 star food, obviously I should have gone with my gut and stayed away from the high proteins with her UGH. So, now I have 3 dogs that I have to switch to yet another food (I don't want to have to buy more different types then I need to) Our Boston terrier has loose stools too, guess it isn't agreeing with her either Where do you get canned grainfree? What brand's are there? I am thinking they would be high in protein too and might cause issues with Bella. I have tried her with some of the wet foods (I think Nutro or Natural Balance, Eukanuba) and she does not want to touch them. |
So you're saying that the R.C. anti-allergenic food doesn't work either? The canned is only available from veterinarians, but does not need a prescription. It can also be purchased online. It consists of either venison, duck, or rabbit with potato, no grains. Have you tried that one already? You could try just some boiled chicken and rice for a while and add pumpkin to firm up stools. The rice usually soaks up excess water in the gut. |
