| Crusty ear tip?? What is that from? I noticed Rocco had a little crust on the side of the tip of his ear. It doens't look like it was a scratch or a scab, it's just about 1/2 inch of crustyness on his ear. I bathe them once a week. What could this be??

| It could be allergies or possibly dry skin but sometimes crust means mites.

| I could be some kind of a fungus infection or yeast infection. If you wash her ears with a medicated shampoo and rinse them very good and the problem keeps coming back then you should take her too the vets. Is she scratching at her ears? |

| There's no scratching happening and his ears don't smell. Usually with mites there's an awful smell. There's no smell, scratching or puss or redness. It's literally just flaky, crusty ends on like 1/2 inch of his ear at the top. He is also acting normal, eating great and no issues.

| I read that crusty ear tips is a early symptom for mange. Most likely it is not that but just to be safe I would take him to the vet. Last edited by bjh; 01-31-2008 at 04:07 PM. |

| It sounds like he is on a good diet. Please let us know what you find out from the vets. To me it sound more like maybe a fungus since he is not scratching it. It is just weird that it is just on the tips of his ears. |

| I am not sure if he has been to the groomers, but they could have cut it. It may just have some serous drainage. Someone was telling me about a groomer superglueing an ear back on! Was it YT?? I cant remember. Nicks happen just a thought |

Haha it's a mystery..At least I'm glad it's not bothering him or anything. I will eventually get to the bottom. Though I just tlaked to my friend and she says her little guy gets it, just a tad bit of dryness at the tip of the ears and her vet it some guys are just more dry than others. Kind of like how we can get flaky behind our ears and we have to get it cleaned up in the shower, same thing with these guys.

| Nope I groom them myself and I haven't cut or nicked him. Plus it's like on the SAME EXACT sides on both ears. Thanks for the guesses though. We will get to the bottom of this together..lol

| My last yorkie had this. She was 17 years old at the time it was just like really dry ends of her ears i just used to put some vaseline on them. I think with mine it was old age. |
