| Cherrios and Breadsticks? I have an 8 month old, 2 pound Yorkie and my sister has a 2 year old, 3 pound Yorkie. She feeds Pinot Cheerios and Breadsticks as treats - she lives in CA. I live in London and my vet said NO to both!! Any suggestions? I hear Cheerios are great training treats. Help, please!! |

| My dog loves Cheerios too! However, I do not feed him Cheerios as a treat. He gets Wellness or other "natural" small treats during training and as a special "after dinner" treat he especially likes a cut up baby peeled and a small stalk of broccoli. Ask your vet why he/she objects. It could be that the carbs are not easily digested by dogs. It would be interesting to let us know what the vet says. Regards to you across the pond from me and my family here in New York! |

| I am from California (so a US girl) and it is so funny how different the vets are! My vet says to give beef jerkey - which is SO high in sodium for a 2-pounder. Yet, he thinks a few Cherrios are bad! I just think giving a 2 pound dog jerkey everyday for training does not seem right!!! Glad to get your responses! |

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | My zoey is a 2 lber and her sister Lulu was a 3 lber at full growth. I used the cheerios as a training aid and as a before bed snack to be sure that they didn't crash from not eating over night. Worked like a charm. I would give that over beef jerky any day. Sorry to say this...I am in no way referring to your vet...but I have to say that there are some dumbass vets out there.

| Lacy's not allowed to have either. She's fed a raw diet so we try to stay away from grains

| The only problem I have with Cheerios is that cereals have synthetic, sprayed-on vitamins. They are already getting tons of that in their dog food. That being said, I think a few are fine. I just stopped listening to regular vets about food. Ellie's vet has said to search online for because she knows very little about nutrition. That is true for most vets, so do what you are comfortable with. And there is no way I would give a Yorkie beef jerky.

| Lolo eats James Wellbeloved Turkey and Rice Food, which is some organic, fresh Turkey food I got talked into. Believe me, I am all for feeding her correctly (and she loves it), but I am in no way all-Organic, raw, etc. ANYWAY, she loves it but I did not think beef jerkey as a treat was right for a 2-pounder!! The sodium count was more than I eat!! I know I am partial to the US, but the vets over here have given me some CRAZY advice!!! Thanks guys, appreciate your posts!!! |

| Both of mine go crazy for Cherrio's. I give them both a few every morning when I get up at 4:15. They don't get fed until 6:30! I have never given them breadsticks though. I think you would be okay w/a couple of cherrios here and there. Its not like you are giving you pup cheese doodles!
