| Heat Question McKenzie is in heat or was in heat. She's still very swollen in her private area and her nipples, but she's no longer bleeding. Here's my question -- all of a sudden since she's stopped bleeding my other two girls want to hump her and so does Bentley( I don't let them of course). All of my other dogs are fixed. Mckenzie was scheduled to be fixed, then she got a gum infection from her teeth coming in and went into the beginning stages of heat, so the vet did not want to spay her. I still have to wait about a month before they think it is a good idea to spay her and remove her baby teeth. Anyhow, back to the question. Mckenzie seems VERY irritated at the other dogs licking her down there and she runs away from them. I've been keeping her with me most of the day in my office while I work, but I was just curious if this is a normal thing. Thanks, and I hope I explained this alright. I feel like I'm being confusing! |

I just wasn't sure if it was normal since they didn't try any of this while she was actually bleeding and I was surprised to all of a sudden see that they were interested (even the females!) | |

| If they dont leave her alone you might have to just remove her from their little sight for awhile, Mabye put them in another room or have her on the sofa with you and them on the floor with the sofa off limits

| They bleed as they are coming into heat. Usually they stop around the time they are actually ready to be bred. So they weren't interested while she was bleeding because she wasn't in standing heat...but now she is so that's why they are showing her so much attention.

| The behavior you are describing is completely normal. Gross, but normal. Just keep in mind that even the most docile, laid back females can transform into Class A Bi***es when they are in heat--so can the females around them. Even if they all love each other and get along at other times, some of them (not just the female in heat) can become territorial and aggressive when in heat. I would advise supervising them as closely as possible when they are together and separating them when you can't keep an eye on them. (Thus the reason why I have 3 dogs in 3 separate rooms of my house right now when I'm not there ) |
