Please I don't understand the cotton coat, silk coat thing. I have read many threads on it, but I have nothing to compare it to. I took 3 photos of Peach...what does it look like to you? She is 10 weeks old.

(Poor thing, just trying to sleep and I was bugging for photos...sorry Peach:p )

It's hard to tell when they are so young. Her coat looks like it COULD be cotton coat. But I am by no means an expert. I have just seen how the different coats look on different age yorkies. She's adorable either way..and she just wants to sleep mommy :D

That's exactly what Cali's coat looks like...I think the fluffy-ness of it is a puppy coat, and their adult ones grow in..but I have dont know how to tell whats going to grow under it..

Thanks for your kind comments...I think she is the most beautiful puppy I have ever seen, but I am her mom LOL:D

I thought I would just add...that her coat grows fast, and for some reason everything comming out it all white, looks like I died her hair black with all those white roots! Also, I have only given her 2 baths, but about 2 days after each she looks very greasy...I don't know if any of that makes a difference :)

It’s hard to tell when they're so young but that’s how Ginger’s fur looked when she was small and she’s a cotton. Your girl's a doll though, either way.

I saw both the other day. A 10 yr old (10 lbs.) male. His coat was thick and a bit curly...short and a female with the silky...it was very thin, long, very human like. I preferred the short clip as the other looked like she was going bald, it was too thin.

Can I see a photo of your Ginger? I just am still not totally sure what the difference is, maybe photos will help :)

Everyone asks me if she has a bald spot on her head, but I think that is because it is comming in white :rolleyes: Again LOL I don't know, just guessing :confused:

looks like silk hair, but she is still young and absolutely beautiful....Mine has white coming in on her head too. she looks like her dye is growing out, but the breeder tells me it will turn soon. I will attach a pic so you can see, this isn't a good pic of her but u can see the white & black:aimeeyork

she looks like my pup at that age and she has silky, but near her bottom ad tail cotton, hard to tell when so young though

your baby looks like mine, but I do believe yours hair is already a little longer than KIzzys. Kizzys hair is turning white on top too and having black hair on top of white roots makes her hair look thin. mine is 16 weeks old and here is a pic of her I made last week. kizzys doesnt seem to have as much hair on her stomach as your baby either. I wonder all the time if her hair will ever be long or if i'm just too impatient about it. I also dont know if she will have a cotton coat or a silk coat.

I know what you mean about being impatient...I wish I could just see a future pic of Peach ;) (I was the same way with our bulldog, I needed to know what he would look like grown up!):animal36
Your baby is so cute and ya, wow, she does have a lot of white coming through, I can see Peach looking like that in 6 weeks or so :)

The white will turn gold as they get a little older. It's a funny looking stage though!! I love it :)

How is the coat when you brush it is it tangly or does the brush go through it smooth. If it is tangly it is a cotton coat. Chachi has a cotton coat and you could tell it was a cotton coat when he was a puppy.

ty for your answer to the original post because it helps answer my question. Kizzy is very easy to brush. She never had any matts yet and the brushe goes thru it smoothly.

She's adorable :) and it's hard to not be curious but just give it time - her coat will change and for now ...just enjoy that puppy coat and her babyness - it doesn't last long before they're all grown up and you'll miss that tiny little dark coated puppy !

Yorkies are so interesting ...they really are like Butterflies - morphing into completely different looking dogs when they reach adulthood.

Well, that again is a mystery :rolleyes: I can brush it easier then I can say...brush my hair in the morning, But not as easy as I can brush my daughters hair, but she still has fairly fine hair. :confused: ...I really have nothing to compare it to, that is most of my problem ;)

I guess I will just do what red98vett said and wait...and enjoy:D
