Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Grrrr....Mats around Collar Area..??? I've tried every kind of collar (yes, for tags/bell only) for Marcel: flat leather, rolled leather, canvas, silk - and he always mats at his neck around the collar area. Anyone have anything else I might try to avoid this? I hate having to put him through the de-matting, but he really must wear a bell (and tags) and collar.

| Do you take it off everyday and brush him? Bailey wears a collar, hers has bing on it, she loves it and will dance around until I put it back on her. She will mat up if I don't take it off and brush her out.

| Not around the collar, but at the armpits for my boys. Its from wearing shirts and coats in the winter. So now I take off their shirts everyday and brush them out.

| Does this happen all the time or only since the cold weather started? I'd be brushing him every day.

| I have to take Bailey's collar and tshirt off everyday also and brush her or she would be a big matted mess. She needs to go to the groomers but we have so much snow here it will have to wait.

| Sorry this is way late. I've been away for a bit. We're also having problems with matting around the neck on Brody. Our trainer suggested using cornstarch. She said it's a working dog trick. It helps to keep the matting down and acts as a flea deterant. We haven't tried it yet.
