How long is TOO LONG @ the groomers? I dropped Ariel off at the new groomers this morning, and still haven't heard back from them. We went there with Belle last time and were more than pleased with the cut, and amount of time it took. So, we decided to bring Ariel there. They were done with Belle in 2 hours, but it's been 4 hours with Ariel. For ya'll who go to groomers, how long is TOO LONG for you until you just go ahead, pick them up, and never go there again? |
Lucy is never at the groomer for more than two hours. They know she gets nervous with all the sounds so they usually put her at the front of the line since she is small and easy to groom. |
My groomers takes about two hours but we normally spend lots of time at her house:p we love it there, So she has to kick us out (jk) |
I don't use a groomer but I would be going back after such a long time to get my baby. Do they sit in cages while waiting for you??? |
Usually 2 hours. I would call or go over. |
Kayah was once at the groomers for 4 1/2 hours... I didn't like the fact that they had her so long... but I was thrilled with the result.. plus Kayah was very happy and running around when we came (and I trust them) |
I just called them and they said she would be ready around 6!!!!!   I'm going to pick her up right now...I dropped her off around 11 thinking she'll be done by now, but this is getting ridiculous. This happened before to Belle at Petsmart and we haven't been there since. I DID NOT expect this from a small business groomer, especially since they did so well with Belle when we took her there a month ago. GOSH, I AM NEVER going there again. WHY can't I find a DECENT groomer in my area?!?!     |
My groomer usually keeps Max about 4 hours...I don't like that, but it's a shop and they're really busy and they do a great job. I think they must have some sort of system b/c I can't see why he needs to be there so early when he won't be done til so late....but.....they really do such a good job and he doesn't seem stressed (just abundantly glad to see me) or anything, so I'm sticking with them. Also, they'll call me if he's done sooner if I want to pick him up (or later than they expected, which only has happened once). As long as you know they're being taken good care of (which I don't feel with practically anyone) you just have to judge what's going on at the groomer's and why they're there for so long. 6 hours would be unacceptable, I have to say. Maybe if you ask WHY it takes so long and make it clear that you don't want to leave your dog that long, the groomer would make some adjustments. I mean, if she/he does a good job.....some people I'm sure don't mind if it takes all day. Or maybe (if you have the space and appropriate area) you could have them come to your house to do it. I know some groomers do that sort of thing if it's cost-effective for them. |
It is usually 2 hrs but never more than 4. I can drop her off between 7 and 10 am. I have found that if I go at 830 she is home earlier. Her groomer usually shows up around 9 am. I like to talk to her about what I want. Some times I try to be there right at nine! |
Alphy is usually done 2 - 3 hours. They let him run around and only put him in an x-pen if there is a big dog. |
I just had karleigh and joey both groomed this week and they were both done with in 2 hrs, I have a lady that does it from her home, so that way they are the only ones there at that time..I have never heard of a 6 hr wait..I would be  hope you find a new groomer :) Good luck to you:) |
Six hours does seem excessive , Tia my Tzu cross takes about 4 hours and Shelly does a fabulas job .Tia is quite used to the long stay and is always happy to see me but she isn't stressed or anything. Maybe they were unusually busy this day or they had some dogs that too longer than they anticipated . Ask them why so long? If they do a great job , don't be too quick to dump them as groomers , from what I've read on this board good groomers seem to be hard to find! Eileen |
I am so sorry! I totally know how you feel! We had a VERY BAD experience @ Petsmart! Addison was there for hours and they had forgot about her! They tried to make up for it by rushing her but I just took her home! I know it was an accident but we no longer use the grooming services there. It seems like there is too much turnover in employment. We do however still use our fave nail trimmer! He rocks! |
wow 6 hrs that is crazy and un called for.i take mine early in the morning so i make sure they are first to get done and go get them with in the hour:) |

It seems that many of the groomers do the grooming in stages. All dogs washed, all dogs nails, all dogs hair cut etc so that it takes a whole day to do the grooming. I think that it stresses out many dogs to spend the whole day and the groomer that we originally used did not take them out for a pee break. I have since found a new groomer that does each dog start to finish. Punkin is done in an hour and a half or less :) She also grooms in a store front window so you know that the dogs are being treated very well. |
I must be over protective but I couldn't leave Ellie with a groomer by herself unless I was friends with them. In some places they make them sit in cages all day, then with nooses, and standing on tables, and drying cages, and other dogs barking Ellie would be so scared. Then you have some grooming places that are private but ones like PetSmart are in the middle of town. These shopping areas can have high crime rate and there is no way Ellie would be out of my sight. I wouldn't let my child stay at a salon alone...no way. I don't really know those people. If I had to take her somewhere to get groomed, I'd watch the WHOLE thing and it better take less than six hours. Maybe I'm the only one... And I think 2 hours is plenty long enough. |

Boy am I with you! I do my own grooming cause the whole leaving them, trusting some one else thing freaked me out to much! I got talking to a woman that was a groomer and she told me NEVER LEAVE YOUR DOG WITH THE GROOMER... SHe has seen dogs fall off the table, HIT THE FLOOR...and they NEVER TOLD THE OWNER!!!   I almost died when I heard that. |
I don't leave my baby with the groomer. I usually stay there and it takes about 1 hour as his fur is not too long but I don't even do that anymore. I just give up on finding a good groomer and does all the grooming on my own now. I just go them to get his nails cut and the groomer in this place is good in cutting nails. There was once this groomer whom I thought was really good, cut into almost all the quick my baby has and bled all over on to me because I was holding him and my baby and I was traumatized for days! She even quickly wiped up all the blood in fear that someone else will see it because she is on her way to pick up her dog! |

There are so many horror stories that I wouldn't even consider leaving her anywhere like that alone. The only place like that that she is left alone is the vets because I don't have a choice and I trust her vet anyway. |
Alot of grooming shops offer express service where your dog is done start to finish and its usually a 90 minute job. I dont understand how anyone can take up to 4 hours to groom a yorkie. I can get one done start to finish in 1 1/2 hours or less depending on whats getting done. 3 hours at the absolute most if its a really busy day. |
groomers be careful dropping off your boys that are not neutered at the groomers for long periods of time.a groomer in my area was caught breeding other peoples dogs (yorkies) to her female and an employee reported her to the clients yes clients. I was there buying products when the stink happened. I am so not nosey.people are crazy and things turn pretty quickly so I left post haste. |
Wow that's seems like a long time. Maxi is usually done in 1 1/2 or 2 hours the most. I feel your pain and definitely wouldnt go there again. |

Thats just horrible.. LOL and I hate grooming unneutered males (puppies I dont mind) its the male dogs whos hormones have set in and they want to pee on every thing. Its just gross |
I used to work at a dog boutique/grooming place (I worked in the boutique). We had a drop off time between 8 and 10 in the morning. Generally, the ones dropped off first would be bathed and groomed first. So dogs dropped off right at 8 were normally done before lunch or soon after while the dogs dropped off at 10 might not be done until 5:00. The bathers bathe, dry, and brush the dogs to get them ready for the groomer and then the groomers cut the hair. Bathing takes a 30 minutes, drying takes 30minutes to an hour (or more depending on the dog) and brushing takes a while too (especially if dogs are matted). Then grooming takes 30minutes to an hour per dog (depending on cut, size and behavior). I just don't think it's fair to assume a groomer will be done in 2 hours. We did have an "express groom" that cost $15 more...the owner brought the dog in and it was immediately bathed, dried, and groomed and out in 1.5-2 hours. So unless a groomer is making scheduled appointments throughout the day and doing one dog from start to finish...you have to expect there to be some wait time. |

I used to groom one large breed unneutered dog and he dripped the entire time he was being groomed it was so gross. |
groomers I have groomers who come to my house which is Wonderful I don't have to go to them. They come in a van and I give them coffee, donuts and they have a blast. Anyway they only take 2-hrs. Mind you they are kinda pricy. They charge me 32.00 for each. The bows are free (ha,) I bet. but that is my imput. Cheryl:aimeeyork |
