| Anyone purchase a Yorkie in NYC? Hello to everyone, I am new to this forum and I live in Brooklyn, NY. I want to purchase a yorkie but don't know how to find a reputable breeder in the area. Can anyone recommend a reputable breeder? I did go to S&V Quality Pups in Brooklyn and Vinny seemed nice enough. He did not try and push me to buy a puppy. He seemed genuinely concerned for the puppies and did not let my little girl hold some of the tea cup yorkies because he said they are very fragile. I totally understood and was not offended. I did see some threads on this forum about S&V that they are a puppy mill. Meanwhile he told me they are not a puppy mill and that I should be careful. Does anyone have any advice on how to go about purchasing a puppy and making sure the breeder is not running a puppy mill? If anyone can recommend a reputable breeder in NYC area I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you for taking the time to read this. |

| I too have seen threads about S & V but i happen to be lucky i guess because 2 of my yorkies are from there and they are perfectly healthy. I dont like that they advertise teacups since there is no such thing. My guys are bigger at 10 lbs and 15 lbs. I would buy form them again if i can brain wash my husband into another yorkie .

| Thanks so much for responding to my question. I am glad to hear you are happy with the pup you purchased from S&V. To be honest, Vinny was very nice to me and my family and never tried to give me a hard sell. He was very concerned about the home the puppy would be going to and that seemed like a very good quality in a breeder. His puppies are very beautiful and well cared for. They all seem very healthy and happy. I will probably go back and get my yorkie unless someone else in this forum can recommend another reputable breeder in the NY area. I'm a little nervous about purchasing a pup over the internet. Any recommends would be greatly appreciated. |

| i purchased my yorkie from barbaras angels in shirley new york. that is out in eastern suffolk, to me it was worth the trip. the breeder has both parents in her home and i spent 3 plus hours trying to decide to take sammy home with me. she was very patient and answered all my concerns and questions. i looked her up on breeders.net. she does have smaller yorkies and some larger ones. all well cared for, clean and very cute. |

| did you look on the ytca website? www.ytca.org I think all the breeders on there have very high standards. I live in upstate ny and actually couldn't find anyone close to me but you might have more luck I'm pretty sure there were some closer to you. I wound up having Zoe shipped which I was really unsure about doing but I'm so happy I did. We got her from www.amazingyorkies.com Good Luck! |

| S & V I got Skylar from there. She had Kennel cough. and recently and ear infection bc her ears arent up and I didnt know I had to clean them. But I love her and she is doing so well. I think it did look a bit shady, and the parents were not on site. But good luck finding your baby!

| How recently did you purchase Skylar from S&V Quality Pups? Have you received all your registrations papers, etc.? I'm just trying to figure out if they are reputable. Many thanks for your time and information. |

| I got Sky on June 15th. I just recently got the papers...I had to call a few times, but nothing bad. and when she was sick he said I could come and see his vet for free. He was nice. Again the place was a little creepy. but Sky is heaven!!!

| Thanks for getting back to me with your information. The place seemed a bit creepy but Vinny was very informative. I may have mentioned before that he was very protective of his puppies and they all looked very well taken care of. He never tried a hard sell with us. He told us we were welcome to come back as often as we liked until we were ready to make a decision. I'm glad Skylar is feeling better and I will let you know what I end up doing. |

| Definitly! Good luck. And see if you can get the price down a little, he will negotiate. Still expensive but maybe. Please keep me posted! We can have play dates!

| I went there with My sister when we were looking for her puppy. I too was under the impression they were breederS...I was wrong. The place looks very run down and not nice at all. when we walked in they were friendly enough I guess. he showed us his "teacups" and asked how much we were willing to spend. Once we said about 1000 he showed us his bigger yorkies. They were all so cute but I did get bad vibe from being in there. Once I asked where he got his puppies from and he said he himself breeds them I thought wow so many puppies...how? well he went on to say that they come from family he has all over...florida, ohio, etc. Im sorry but I felt that was my time to run out as fast as we could! I feel they re getting their dogs from puppymills. I know its hard to look for a breeder in NYC but maybe try out of state? we ended up getting a little girl from Indiana, we got pick her up in 2 weeks. Is it far? yes but so worth it! The prices out here are more or less the same price we end up paying getting macy from indiana and shes from a great breeder! Hope this helps!

| I agree totally. I hate to think Sky came from a mill! Especially because I don't want to support that!!! I got her papers and her mom and dad I think if I read correctly are from Rhode Island...Oh I mean the whole thing is crazy! These are lives!! Little creatures! It makes me so sad!

| I too felt bad about getting max from a petshop but honestly I have learned so much from YT that I never knew...about puppymills is one of them. I went in the shop and it was so nice and clean all the pups were happy and smelled so good so when i asked her where Max came from and she said a breeder in flushing queens I decided I would take him. I even signed her contract that clearly stated NO PUPPYMILL DOGS. But she lied to me. do i beat myself up about it now? No I dont I just learned from my mistake and thats why we are flying to Indiana to get Macy. It doesnt make you a bad person if you got your puppy from a petshop when you were unaware of the problems with puppymills. Like i said before it might seem a bit extreme to some, flying into Indiana from NY but honestly my sis is spending just as much as I spent in the petshop only difference is that her puppy was rasied with love and her parents and Max was "just a dog" to them

| Don't buy from S & V regardless of whether others got healthy pups there. They are a petstore/broker and support mills.
