| Anyone for london that can help with travelling Hi all I live in London, UK and I have a YT which is 10 months. My home country is CYPRUS and I have to travel at least twice a year there. When I went in summer (he was 5 months old) he travelled with me. He was great. Did not cry when was put in his kennel etc. He arrived in Cyprus happy and super healthy. However, I think I did not do a proper research before I took him because I just called an airline ( Cyprus airways) and they told me that pets only travel from and to UK as cargo. So I booked Draco a place from and to UK and this cost me 1200 GBP which is a huge amount of money. I cannot afford this twice a year. When I got to the airport, I saw people carrying their pets with them. I found out later that certain airlines allow you to take your dog with you on the plane (if it is less than 8kg with its carriage) from UK but when you return to UK you need to send it as cargo. Does anyone have any experience with this? Any ideas about cheap ways to do this from London? Also, is Heathrow the only airport that does this? Many thanks and sorry for the long message AP |

| All the UK airports require pets to come in as cargo, but not all airports allow pets and have checkpoints for them to be screened. Personally, Based on my experience and airlines statistics for transporting animals, I would only fly a pet cargo with British Airways, and only at moderate temperature times of year. When I wanted to fly into the UK from America in winter, i would fly to France and then take the ferry across to England. You might want to look into taking the ferry across to the continent and then flying your dog in cabin with you to Cyprus. It may be cheaper too.
