♥ love my girls!! ♥ Donating Member | Flying from OK to Alaska--and a funny too ;) We are going to Alaska for 2 weeks to visit my bf's parents in a week and a half, and I am so excited...and also a little nervous/stressed because flying isn't the greatest for me, but it IS doable. Bella is going with us, and ALL the arrangements have already been made for that (she's traveling as a service dog...don't want to discuss details). She LOVES riding in the car, so I'm hoping that love transfers to planes. She does NOT, however, like loud noises...just hope she doesn't bark! :/ Also, funny story, since we'll be in the FREEZING cold, I got some footwear for her. (She potties outside, so she's gonna need them!) I have PAWZ dog boots (Pawz Dog Boots ), but I'm worried her little tootsies will freeze off with just those. So, I got some little pink dog boots (Lulu brand, from Walmart) to try. All I can say is L-O-L!!!! She obviously didn't like them, so I took her outside on her harness and leash to "practice", since I figured it would be better to do that here now than wait until we get there. OMG, I laughed until I was nearly sick!! But, she started getting the hang of it. She still doesn't walk like normal with them on, but I plan to try to practice a little more each day until we go.

| I bought those Pawz boots and they couldn't keep them on. The tops keep rolling back down. At one time we thought we would go to Alaska every seven weeks, home two, and so on, so I ask Mike (Alaska Yorkie) what type of boots I should get and he said the wool booties, then if it's wet out, put the other boots over the wool ones. These are the boots my girls have, and I believe it's what Mikes kids wear in Alaska. Extreme Climate Boots - Your Store Online

I've been talking to Mike (we're trying to plan a meetup), and he told me about some fleece booties that he uses now. They're sold in a store there in Anchorage, and I guess a lady makes them. I can't wait to see what they're like! I bet they're MUCH better than either of what I have!!

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | Ha, just stumbled on this thread. Tara and Bella are here, and we've already had a meetup! Bella is adorable, btw, and a very confident dog. Check out this video thread: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/my-...ska-storm.html And, yes, when I say she took Alaska by storm, she really did. We must have had 6 inches of snow since they arrived!

They were great for very occasional use like we were doing, but now that we're in AK and need them for every potty break....NOT GOOD!! She HATES them because since they're rubber they pull her toe hair So, we promptly went to the store here (Unique Gifts for Alaskan Pets and Their People | Paw Prince ) that sells the fleece booties Mike was telling me about. They are GREAT!!! We love them! They're made here in Anchorage, and she makes lots of other things too.....here's her site: Booties Also, not that we're outside enought for it to matter, I found out they wouldn't be good for dogs who are outside for any length of time (>15 min my vet says) because dogs sweat through their tongues and paws and the rubber keeps the sweat in....AND the sweat can FREEZE thereby creating the frostbite you were trying to avoid! Makes sense huh! So, I'd like to amend my statement that they could be good for occasional use but would be better suited to short hair dogs....and are NOT good for dogs who go on walks in sub-freezing temps, and probably wouldn't be good for dogs who spend any length of time outdoors when it's hot out either (because of the air flow / perspiring issue). The fleece booties, however, are amazing!!! If it's soaking wet out, though, they might not be so good???
