| Reverse Sneezing or Collapsing Trachea? When Vinnie was about 2 months old he started making very distinct "goose honking" noises when he plays. In the past week we've had a few instances of not really a cough or a choke but it sounds like he's sucking air back inside. It has happened when he ate one time, once when he played, once after having his teeth brushed (which he loves and gets all excited) and once just as he was walking. My guess was reverse sneezing but I fear the collapsing trachea. He will be going in the next two months for a 1 year checkup, should I wait or have him seen now?

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | This thread: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=78517 has some great info AND videos of CT vs. reverse sneezing, it might help. Those noises are scary, I know. Wylie did it more as a pup, and he did outgrow it - even more so as I gave him premium / homecooked food. Marcel seems to do it more during allergies. Keep us posted and good luck!

sometimes this occurs when they ingest too fast, specially water...when they eat they usually drink water, brushing the teeth may have caused him to swallow water and from play he may have ran in a gulped water...usually its nothing to fear

| It's not the kind of choke that happens if he eats or drinks too fast. and I don't put any water on the toothbrush with the toothpaste, I rinse it very well after he is done and boil it in hot water once a week, so there is no water invovled with the actual brushing. It's one of the two, I just don't know which one, we take him to the only respectable vet in the area and he is off for two weeks for vacation, i'm at a loss. he had done it a few times in the past few months, but suddenly he is doing it all the time. We have a buddy belt for him.

| Have him checked by the vet and ask about "elongated soft palate" it is the tissue in the back of the throat and if it is too long or short the dog has trouble swallowing or breathing. My little one made those noises usually after she ate and got excited. Sometimes when she was sleeping. The doctor sedated her and gave us the diagnosis. I am not saying it's this condition but my little girl when on like this for months until he diagnosed her. When you rule out all the other things it could be, one of them being a collapsed trachea a little common in yorkies then check on this condition. Hope I helped! It's probably nothing.
