Positive Parvo I am new to the forum and new to yorkies. I wanted a yorkie for years and about 1 week ago finally was blessed with Tiffany. She's the most lovable little pup and has my heart. She has been a very hyper little gal since I got her but on Thurs. I noticed she wasn't quite as hyper as usual and wasn't eating. I watched her closely and on Friday she was still not as hyper. She wasn't really lethargic or acting ill in any way, just not as active and not eating. So we took her to the vet and got the most heartbreaking news! She tested positive for parvo! In the area I live in they said it was almost an epidemic because it's so common right now. She had her first vaccination but the lady I got her from apparently fibbed to me because she had never had her boosters. The vet said it was a very strong positive but it was promising that she wasn't too symptomatic yet. They have kept her overnight and will keep her for several days to continue treatment. The vet keeps telling me that she's very optimistic but just the sound of parvo horrifies me. So give it to me straight...is it a good thing that she got medical attention quickly and does her lack of symptoms give any promise as to her getting better? Thanks for any advice! Me and my kids and even my DH are so upset by this. |
OH NO !!!! I'm soooo sorry ...I'd be so worried too.....:( :( :( How old is she ?? I've never dealt with it but hope they can treat her and ALL THE BEST OF luck that she'll be ok !!! |
Poor baby!! I hope she gets well soon!! I did have a dog many years ago that had parvo. He was a big dog though (alaskan malamute/akita). We admitted him in the hosptial and he came back to us a healthy dog!!! So there is hope! I'll be sending prayers your way and for little Tiffi! Keep us posted! |
Oh how awful, I am sending prayers to you and your little one! Keep us updated AND Welcome to YT! |

I am so very sorry for both you and Tiffie. I know that your heart is aching right now. Typically, Yorkies are real fighters -- I am sure that your Tiffie will do her very best to get well quick. Sending prayers and hugs :ghug: |
Hopefully she is older because they can find it a little bit better. We have been through parvo and it was a nightmare. My thoughts and prayers are with you!! Keep us updated on progress. PM me if you need someone to talk to |
if you [ayed for that puppy i would demand reimbursement now or at the very least help with vet bills she can be saved but it will take awhile with daily meds and ivs when she going potty and eating and no more vomiting or dirrhea she will be ready to go home i hope she will be ok |
I used to belong to a pet rescue group in Va and if you have the time and dont have enough money ask the vet about allowing you to take your puppy home and do the IV's yourself if you can. its hard but I know a few yorkies who have had parvo and they pulled out fine. but I agree with other post I would contact the breeder and demand money back or at least pay for medical bills I dont know the laws there but I know if she is AKC reg. you can threaten to turn them in and if she was a good breeder she would know bad Mojo for her Tiffany is in our prayers here Dionna |
:hands: prayers are going your way..... |
I know of 2 puppies that got Parvo and both survived, so I don't think it is necessarily always a death sentence. Good thing you got her to the vet right away. My prayers and best wishes go to you for a speedy recovery for your little one. |
how old was the pup when you got her? |
Thank you all for the prayers! When I talked to the vet yesterday she said Tiffany is doing great! I was so thrilled to hear that! They do want to go ahead and keep her over the weekend to monitor her in case she takes a turn but as long as she stays as she is she will be coming home tomorrow. I wonder now about the possibility of a false positive since she never got too sick. She is AKC registered and I didn't get her from a breeder. Actually I got her from a less-than-honest family member who couldn't keep her. But yes, I have already told the family member I am sending her the bill and she was agreeable. So I am also very thankful that worked out. She is 6 months old today actually. I can't wait until tomorrow because I am just believing she is going to continue to do good and I will be bringing my baby home in the morning. In the meantime, since I am new to yorkies, I am going to read up on here about everybody else's and look forward to learning more and sharing with you all when she is home! |
Oh MY! I hope your baby pulls through!! At least she has a Mommy that loves her very much! I do know that puppies can still get Parvo even with their shots. Usually they are safe when they have finished all of the rounds of shots, but it is still a possiblity....anyway that is what our vet told us. |
This is wonderful news!!! I'm so glad! I will look for your thread tomorrow about you bringing Tiffy home!! I think it was a good idea for them to keep her and be sure she is over it. I'm sure I don't have to tell you that you will learn TONS here! You've come to the right place and get ready to stay awhile!! Quote:
