Something is wrong with Starsky
 
Starsky has been feeling down the last 4 days. I thought it was the food I had changed him too, so I put him on a rice and and boiled chicken diet. He was hungry a lot so he went back to the Nutro that I used to feed him. He is having normal stools and urinating fine. He is just so said and not peppy. I think tonight I figured it out. He won't let me look in his mouth, like he hurt a tooth or something. He didn't eat his Nutro dry food this morning but he ate the chicken and rice tonight. His breath smells bad too. It has never smelt bad. It smells a lot like Shylahs and she is teething. I am going to take him to the vet tomorrow. I feel so sorry for him feeling this way. He still greets me at the door with hugs and kisses, then he just wants to lay down. I wish there was something I could do for him for the pain.

I'm sorry he's not feeling well. Sounds like a tooth like you think. I'm glad he's going to the vet tomorrow. He'll feel better in no time.

Awe, I'm sorry to hear that he's not feeling well. I guess the best thing is to take him to the vet tomorrow...and give him lots of love tonight. Keep us updated!

Yeah, sounds like he has a sore tooth. I'm glad you're taking him to the vet. Let us know how it goes.

You are not going to believe this!
 
:( well I took Starsky to the vet and you are not going to believe this. His teeth are fine but he has an infection in his trachea and on his gums!! Leave it to my Starsky to get something weird!! They had to put him out to see it and as soon as they put the tube down his throat, they saw the puss from the infection. Not sure what caused it, could be a piece of food or even mucas. He is still groggy tonight from the anesthetic. I gave him his first round of antibiotics tonight in his food. I can't wait to have my peppy Starsky back!! He looks so sad and his coloring is even different. Well at least we know what it is and we are on the road to recovery. Thanks for all the caring responses, but we aren't out of the woods yet.

Poor Shylah misses her playmate!!

First of all I would like to say what a good mommy you are for getting him in there so quickly to be checked. We cant take any chances with these little guys, and I know it is exspensive but man are they worth it! I hope the meds do the trick and he is on his way to a quick recovery!

Glad to hear that your litle Starsky is on the road to mending. What an unusual ailment. Once again, good judgement prevailed -- getting him to the vet quickly probably spared him more serious illness

Wow, just read this thread...sorry to hear Starsky is sick!! I just hate it when something is wrong and you know something is, but not what...so worrying!! Glad you at least know what it is now...how scary that must have been though when you got there and they had to knock him out!! And then they tell you about an infection...I know you must have really been worried!! Hope the antibiotics work quickly for him and he is back to his normal self soon!!:)

it's 10:00 at night and Starsky is still kind of out of it. He was put under around 1:30 pm. Is this normal? I just hate seeing him this way. He is laying in my arms right now and I am being a 1 handed typer! He did eat a good dinner and got his first dose of antibiotics tonight. I sure hope he acts better tomorrow.

He'll probably recover very quickly. I hope so, anyway. I'm glad you took him in when you did and got it taken care of quickly. Let us know how he progresses.:)

Well, you know when we have an infection that we don't feel up to par, either. However, he's had a big day on top of all of that, besides taking antibiotics also has to affect him a little, too. Just climb in bed and cuddle. I'm sure he'll feel a little better soon.:)

I pray that he will be better in no time. Wow, I never heard of such a thing. Thanx for posting in case one of our babies ever get's something like this.

Poor little guy...he must be feeling so miserable. You're such a good mom for getting him in to the vet right away!!

He'll probably start feeling better after about 3 days on the antibiotics. I don't think it's unusual that he's taking a while to recover from being knocked out...he's probably just feeling really crappy.

I'm so sorry that Starsky is sick...and what a weird illness! I'm sure glad you took him to the vet and hopefully he will be feeling great in no time. Seems it takes a few doses of the antibiotics before they start feeling alive again! Maddie and I send get well wishes and lots of kisses to Starsky. What he has sure sounds painful...poor boy!

And lots of it!! He has only had 3 doses of the antibiotic and he is running around chasing bunnies and protecting my back yard again!! It is so nice to see him pull out a toy and bring it to me to play with!! His color even looks better and you can really read it in his eyes!! Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers guys!! These little guys can heal up fast. His breath is even better!! He is coughing more, but I think the antibiotics are loosening everything up. Things are going good!!!!!!!!!!:thumbup:

Oh Leigh, I was so sorry to hear about Starsky. What a strange illness. You did great taking him to the vets so quickly. I'm glad to hear he is feeling better! Big hugs from Bailey and Tia.

I am so pleased to hear that Starsky is well on the road to recovery. I have not heard of this before, what he has.

I am so glad Starsky is feeling chipper again. That is such a coincidence - my dtr(Roxy's mom) has a sinus infection, tracheal infection, laryngitus and strep throat. I had never heard of a tracheal infection in a human, let alone a dog. She is on mega antibiotics, and lots of other good meds. Way too many germs and bugs floating around out there. Anyway, I'm happy Starsky is doing well again.
