Loose stools! What is the best dog food to give when they have sensitive stomachs? I have been feeding him Chicken Soup and it seems like he has had a lot of gas recently. Yesterday morning he pooped a LOT. It was normal but it was like he had been constipated. ANyway later on that day he pooped again and it was very very loose. It wasn't watery at all. So I took his food away and just let him have water. I also gave him a TAD bit of pepto. Well he hasn't pooped any since. This am I boiled some chicken and rice for him and so far so good. I was feeding him Nutro Natural chicken, rice and oatmeal and he did good on that. The only problem I had was that his eyes were really watery. Since being off of Nutro they don't see to be as bad. I switched to get away from the red beet pulp. He has been off of Nutro for a while now. Does anyone recommend any other kind of food? I am open to suggestions because he isn't crazy about Chicken Soup anyway. Thanks Michelle |
Hi Michelle, I'm not any help. I don't have one with a sensitive stomach, but I was wondering if you'd looked into any of the Natural Balance food? I'm sure there are some others here who have little one's with sensitive stomachs and can help you.:) http://www.naturalbalanceinc.com/products/dogfood.html |

Thanks I will check it out. I did mix the two for a while but he would pick the old stuff out and then pick the new stuff out. This was about 4 weeks ago tho. He had been eating and pooping just fine. He is still acting like himself so I will just keep an eye on him. I swear they are just like kids. If i didn't know any better I would swear he was milking it !! lol Michelle |
Anytime I change Jaxon's food he ends up with runny poops for a day or two. I've tried a few different brands trying to find one that he'll still like after a week. He's been on Wellness for awhile now and things seem ok. I think you have to stick with the same kind for a few days and see if things balance out. |
There isn't a reason in the world that a dog can't have different stools from time to time without having any real problems. There are many things that affect a dog's stools -- foremost diet - and the amount of food they eat, the amount of fluids they drink and their exercise level. It's normal to have occasional changes from time to time and it isn't always someting you need to worry about. I know my Yorkie's stools change a lot and he's perfectly healthy. He eats a variety of foods and different foods every day - so I'm sure this accounts for any change in his stools. Then - there's my other dog - he goes outside and I almost never ever see his stools -- and so, of course, I never worry about him. (This is probably the way it should be). Do turn into a stool gazer!!!!! Let your puppy poop in peace!! Yes - I know there can be times when our dogs are really having problems - but believe me - these are really few and far between....... I am not a stool gazer, Honest! :D The only reason I do happen to see it all the time is that I go outside with him all the time. He isn't allowed out on his own. We live on the side of a mountain and we have hawks living up here. You can often hear them outside screaming. Diesel is only 5 pounds and we have rabbits that are much bigger that the hawks pick up and take away. Our other dog's (shepherd) poop is never seen. LOL I did feed him boiled chicken and rice yesterday and so far so good. He didn't poop at all yesterday so I guess that means it is clearing up. I plan on getting him some new dogfood today. something that might be easier on his stomach. Like I said he isn't even crazy about Chicken Soup. That surprises me because it smells just like chicken soup. Thanks for the help guys..:) Just call me "Stool Gazer":yelrotflm |
Don't feel bad. Mine has never been terribly impressed with Chicken Soup, either!:D It is one of a bunch I mix together. |

Nutro makes a dog food specific for sensitive stomachs with oatmeal. Just noticed you already tried this. http://www.nutroproducts.com/nccropup.asp |
Yep and he really liked it and did very well on it too. His eyes just watered really bad. Since being off of it they have cleared up! He also loves the Innova and the loose stools have cleared up!!! |
