Parvo shot made Venus sick The vet told me yesterday the parvo shot might make her sick for 24-48 hours. Boy was she right! Last night we went back to canned food, and I was having to give her water from a syrenge. I also added the Neurta-Cal back to her. Poor girl, laid in my lap as I watched tv, and didn't pay any attention to Adonis, my older yorkie, which is very unusual for her. She was so sick, when I'd take her out, she'd just sit or lay in one spot. She wouldn't even chase Adonis, as much as he tried to get her to chase him. Now this morning, she was back to her old self. Back on dry food, and drinking again! Sure was a relief to me! So I suppose after getting off track one night, we're getting back on track. |
Wow, seems more and more vaccines make our babies sick, don't they? .Pepper got very very sick after Lepto shot, now the vet is spacing the time between the rest of shots in 2-3 intervals. He was OK after Parvo though, got the first Distemper today and I'm watching him but seems fine. It's going to take a little longer time to have him fully vaccinated WOW LOL. Better safe than sorry huh.Glad your girl is doing fine now, |
I am so very sorry that Venus got sick from her shot. I am beginning to believe that we mess with nature way too much and by giving so many "anti" shots that we prevent the body from generating it's own antibodies and cause a viscious cycle -- diseases mutate to overcome artifical immunities which we counter by more artificial immunity Glad to hear she is feeling better. |
I'm glad she's doing better! |
Glad your baby is feeling better. Your vet didn't give Lepto did he? When a dog has a reaction, usually the reaction is worse with each additional vaccine. |
What a shame. They have to get so sick just so they can keep from getting sick, I'm glad she's back to her old self. |
I'm not sure of all the things she got thats on this sheet. One says DHLP-PV and the other one says Strongid 0-20 lbs. I know the pv probably stands for parvo. I suppose I need to take more notes in her office. |
Parvo or?? Maybe the shot had more than Parvo, maybe it had other things too. Some vets give them Lepto and Coronia in it to, way to many things in one shot for our Itty Bitty Babies. I was always told when I got my first breeding dogs not tp ever give anything besides the Parvo/Distemper, and that the Lepto can actually cause a dog to die. I hope your FurBaby is better. |
Yep, the L is for Lepto. Can't imagine why your vet would give Lepto to a Yorkie and then lie and say it was a reaction to the parvo. Don't let him give it again. It has the highest reaction rate of any vaccine and the disease itself isn't even usually fatal (but the shot can be). I question your vet's knowledge about toy breeds. If you ever let this vet anesthetize your dog, do some research first and make sure he is doing what is safest for your little one. Lepto is caused from bacteria in stagnant water and the vacine only is good for like 4 strains of the 50 out there. Do you live in an area where there are lakes, rivers, ponds, etc.? |
Just noticed you were from Alabama and I think Alabama has had Lepto outbreaks, but still feel the vaccine is not very good since it doesn't cover all forms of Lepto. Also the Lepto part of the vaccine is only good for 6 months so you would have to get it twice a year to be protected. I would definitely do some research and discuss the risks of getting and not getting the vaccine before the next booster is due. Let us know what your vet says. |

My vet gave Balli a shot with Lepto in it and she was laying around for 3 days not feeling well. So when I took her in she even had a slight fever. He told me that would be on her records not to give it to her again. I am also going to have him add the Coronia thing you said. I was so upset, I do not want this to ever happen again! |
My boy got very sick from Lepto last week. So sick he wouldn't bear weight on his legs and cried everytime I put him on his feet. My vet will not give him Lepto again! It sounds like you got the combo shot with Lepto in it. Another member who said Lepto was the cause of alot of adverse reactions was right...my vet said so, too. |

I disagree. My vet checked stools on Balli when I first got her and he saw nothing there. But told me he had to worm her anyway as they do not always show up when checked for. It was a precautionary measure. My breeder had already given all Balli's shots to her when I bought her as she was 4 months old when I brought her home. It was her one year booster with Lepto she had a reaction to. So I bet since alot of people have reactions from this lepto shot, it is common even with a healthy dog.... |
OMG - Do You Think OMG, do you think that a vet would give the stronger shots because if the dog gets sick or has a reaction they make more money when you need to come back... so they have no incentive to be more careful but look like their great when they save your dog and get the bigger bucks. |
