I think seeking a new vet is a good idea. It doesn't sound like he got a very thorough examination. I would give the antibiotics two or three days to kick in and then take his temperature. If he still has a temperature I would take him to a different vet or sooner, if he won't eat, has diarrhea or vomiting, or becomes lethargic again. I would keep him on the chicken and rice and just feed him small amounts 4 times a day and encourage liquids. You can substitute chicken broth to entice him to drink, if you don't think he is consuming enough water.

Glad he's eating - We have some New Yorkers on here I am sure they can recommend a vet.

I totally agree - go to another vet- the ASPCA is great at some things but in this case I'd sure feel better with a private vet....You got great advise already so I'll send more prayers for him - PLEASE keep us posted and GOOD LUCK !
