Skin Bacteria I've only had Brutus for 2 weeks now. Last week, on Thursday, I found a yellowish pustule on his belly. I called the vet right away and he has been on antibiotics since. Today (Monday) I found more pustules on his belly and legs and also a few ulcerated leasions on his head and one leg. I did some research and it definitely sounds like a skin bacteria, which I guess can be common. The problem is, I don't feel like my vet is doing his job. I called him up again today to ask when these should start going away and all they did was try to get me back in a sell me more antibiotics without even looking at him!!! Urg!! That really frustrated me. Anyways, I was just looking for some advice from someone. Also wondering if anyone else has seen this on their dog??? Please help in any way you can. Thank you so much!!

Sounds like staph. You might need to add an antibiotic shampoo and pills, together with the topical antibiotics. http://www.lowchensaustralia.com/health/pyoderma.htm

It does sound like staph and if so, a cephalosporin might be ordered along with a medicated shampoo and ointment. It is easily treated when the right meds are used so don't give up the faith...The vet can send a sample of the drainage to a lab and learn exactly what the bug is and treat it with just the right meds. Good luck and hope she gets well soon..

Penny had a problem with pustules last year that the vet assumed were related to her allergies. It took us two tries to find the right antibiotic, and we also had to use a medicated shampoo called Malaseb that we could either bathe her whole body with or apply directly to individual pustules. Hope you will get this figured out! It really worried me with Penny as they seemed to multiply quickly and she was irritated by them, but we got it under control and the problem hasn't reappeared.
