| please help me if you know what this is like? doggie won't eat, has cold, in animal hospital, and cannot keep his sugar at normal level. has iv of dextrose and nutrients and is being force fed b/c he can't or won't eat. I have had him for 7 days, of which most of the time he has been quite down and out. I feel like I'm on a rollercoaster. Although I have had 3 yorkies already, I can't believe that all of my research has led me to such a bad experience. I have just had a very sad run in with a breeder who i thought was so reputable and wonderful. my new baby puppy is very ill and was sent to me under 2 pounds, and although he was 10 weeks when i received him, he was the tiniest that transpet has ever seen. We think he should have been kept with his sister for a bit longer. He's really tiny and is not eating willingly. I got him at 1.5 pounds and from the first night he has been having issues with food and water. He is almost scared of it. I am fully versed in understanding about the hypoglycemia risks and since I didn't expect him to be so small I wasn't emotionallly prepared for what I've been going through. I asked for a toy and didn't expect a tea cup. I love him already though and don't know what to do...within the 7 days he's been here: He got a cold because his immune system has been down and my family and i were giving him around the clock care for a week, dealing with hypoglycemia, lack of any appetite or thirst. Next i noticed that he had a sniffle. i brought him to the doctor and they told me that he had to stay there. They said he probably can't smell his food and that it is causing him not to eat. besides this, his sugar is very low and all of the food that we've been syringing to him: pedialyte, esbilac (sp?) and nutrical and karo were not helping him. Evidently it only lasts for 15 minutes and because he doesn't eat its harming him more than anything. I am sad because my breeder won't take my calls and won't call me back. any emails they've written back were one liners. I am pulling for him and I think that because he'll be so small, and delicate he'll need a healthy companion to keep him going. If you have advice on a breeder or have had this experience please let me know what to do. I am very very sad and have crying episodes every night he's been at the animal hospital. I am about to go visit him so I would love some help. He's got my mom and dad 59 and 68 years old, my fiance and I, my brother, and my parents' two other yorkie boys pulling for him. Thanks, maggie. |

| I'm so sorry you are going threw this. I have a 15wk old out of my litter that is only 1lb. 6oz. and she has been sick off and on too. She is not the best eater. I have to force her to eat and give her nutrical. This is the first one that I have had that has been this small. I hope everything gets better. My prayers are with you.

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | To be honest - your breeder sounds TERRIBLE and I think your little guy will need to stay and be fed/treated by your vet in order for him to pull thru this - it's very possible your breeder lied about his age. Do you think he needs a surrogate mom to nurse on ? he really could be to young to have been shipped and he may not be eating because he isn't ready to. Bless his heart - he's lucky to have survived being shipped. He sounds pretty weak and that is so so sooooooooo sad. I really hope they can get him thru this and he gets to eating better. All the best to you and your puppy.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I am so sorry! Cali had several episodes of Hypoglycemia and required several er hospitalizations for IVing dah coccidia a nd kennel cough and a mild liver diease. I had to feed her every 3 hours and at 1 year she still eats 3 times a day. She was 9 weeks old and 1 lb when I got her. At about 8 1/2 months old she fianlly stabilized. Hopefully your baby will to. He is at the best place for now getting the help he needs. See if they can test him for Liver shunt and kidney problems while he's there. Prayers for him and you.

| First, welcome to YT. I'm so sorry you are having such a bad experience. Hopefully the vet will be able to get him healthy and then he'll be a great puppy, just little. I'm sure the vet is testing for parasites also, but they can really be hard on the little guys. Any meds your baby is on can also change his taste buds and make food undesirable for him. Sissy and I are pulling for your little guy, too. Please keep us posted. P.S. Send your breeder all the vet bills along with a letter from your attorney!

| Mine was only 9 ounces at 8 weeks and we never thought she would make it. We never hospitalized her, but were at the vet almost everyday. She had severe hypoglycemia even though I gave her Nutrical 4 or 5 times a day. I also syringe fed her Pedialyte and she ate baby food chicken. She did eat that well, but continued having seizures. I never left her alone and eventually she became a healthy dog at about 3 or 4 months old. My contract stated I had to return the dog for a refund, no vet bills. I just absorbed the bills because the breeder was 12 hours away and she couldn't make the trip. My vet didn't even give me any hope, but with very attentive around the clock care she proved everyone wrong! She even matured to be 4pounds. |

Our Blessings R Many Donating Member | Hi Maggie, Please keep us updated on your little fella there, we will be praying for him to be a real fighter and gain strength to get over what ever is illing him. Hope to hear better news when you update us. After Baby Blessing got the bad batch of dry food she has not wanted to eat any more dog food (so I have been fixing for her, hopefully she will get back to eating the dry foods) I have been gradually adding the dry food to her cooked chicken breast with diced baby carrots and then cottage cheese mixed in it (Trader Joe's Cottage Cheese) talk about being spoiled, if it isn't there brand she won't eat it the vet told me to put her on this after she got so ill on the bad food episode. I know the heart ache of having a sick baby and am glad you found YT the folks here are fantastic and so caring, I know many other people here are praying for your little fella too. | I know nothing about the tiny one's condition, except that I understand how you're feeling with having him @ the hospital. YT thoughts & prayers really do work! I'll be thinking of you & your little guy, and please do keep us updated.

| very sad Hi everyone, thank you all for your good wishes. It made me feel better. I am sad to bring the news that my little man died at 8am yesterday morning. The vet on duty (not my favorite) said he had a siezure and then passed However, I am still a little questionable about this b/c his blood sugar was being normalized and his temp was ok. it was just that he wouldn't eat and was trying to get better from the cold he had. Maybe it was just God's will, but we are totally totally devistated. The breeder said that they are sending me a new dog...wouldn't it have been better if they just kept him the whole time instead of putting him through this? I am so upset. Love, Maggie |

Hi Maggie, I am so sorry about your little fella, I am glad your breeder is seeing that you get another, can you ask to get it at 12 weeks of age or till it reaches the desired weight that you want it to be? One never knows in getting one what is going to happen, same for ourselves we never know from one day to the next what is in store. My prayers are with you, we know the heart ache of loosing one, I don't like 8:00 a.m.'s that is the same time our Cassie left us after being blessed with her for ten and half years, they really take part of our heart with them. Little fella is now with Cassie and all the other precious ones and am sure he is right up there in the Lord's arms giving him tons of puppy kisses. God has a plan for each of us, your little fella will be there to greet you. Patti | |
