| Silk is coughing. I have been away for most of the weekend and when I came home late today, I noticed Silk was coughing. She coughed about three times. I noticed she (or someone) had eaten a lot of dry food. It is a hacking cough like she has something hung in her throat. We know it's not kennel cough. No other dogs here, either inside or out are coughing. She did not eat as much today as usual. She didn't finish her meals. I have noticed over about the last week, she has coughed about once every two or three days. I didn't pay a lot of attention because I really felt she was trying to hack something out. i know about collapsed trachea and I know it usually strikes adult dogs like her. She is having no trouble breathing and is running and playing with all the other dogs . She doesn't seem sick at all. She has not had a collar or harness on since I have had her. Friday morning, after having some boiled chicken mixed in with her food on Thursday, she had one stool that looked like blood. I gave her a worm treatment for that and I haven't seen anymore . I guess I just need some comfort here. I'm worried. I guess if she keeps doing it, I will take her to the vet tomorrow. Does it sound to you guys like she is just trying to get something out of her throat? |

| If she keeps coughing, you probably will have to go to the vet. I am sure a dog could get something stuck in their throat or esophagus..it could be a piece of food or even something like a small sliver of wood she picked up someplace. Once my father got a small chicken bone sliver stuck in his throat - and he went around trying to get rid of it the better part of the day - before he went to the ER where they quickly got it out. I would suspect that any number of different things might cause your little pup to cough. Wouldn't it be nice - if it went away on its own??? Carol Jean |
