puppy iches and scratch all the time? need help ASAP Please... i have a 6 and a half month old puppy and he have dry flaking skin and he's scratching a lot. i took him to the vet and they gave him relvolution to treat it but it dont seem to be helping. some people told me that relvolution is too strong for a puppy his age. can anyone help me out? |
What do you wash him with? If it's human shampoo try getting him a specially pH-balanced puppy one. |

First thing to check is the shampoo/conditioner that you're using and if you're rinsing REALLY well. Second is the diet. What are you feeding? |
Try EQyss Micro Tec shampoo, sometimes that helps. If not, try a good medicated shampoo, Malaseb is good. When all else fails, back to the vet for a skin scraping. Don't we love spendind $$ at the vet.LOL :rolleyes: |
i use oatmeal shampoo for puppy and i feed him eukanuba puppy food mix with baby food: chicken, beef, and ham..i took him to the vet already and they give him revolution to treat it but he still iches and he have like flake on his skin |
Hi I would suspect it could be the food. Don't ever feed ham or pork products to Yorkies. It can create some really serious digestive problems. Your little pup could be allergic to the beef or chicken. There are also some hypoallergenic dog foods on the market. Although he is a puppy, six months isn't too bad to take him off puppy food. Dick Van Patten's Duck and Potato often will work well, it comes in tinned and dry food. You can mix a bit of the tinned with the dry. An oatmeal shampoo might be a better way to go or you can try Head and Shoulders but mix it with water first, lather well and rinse well. Often it will clear up the flaking and calm the itching. |
Revolution is for fleas. Does your little one have fleas? I agree with Lorraine ...stay away from ham/pork. Look for a dog food that does not have a lot of corn and you can also pick up amino-acids from a PetStore. I use Salmon Oil for this but I know there are other products. |
I've read on here that the foods with high corn product content can cause this itchy skin problem. I would definitely take a look at the food you're feeding. That could be the simplest answer! All the great shampoo/conditioners in the world may not make a lick of difference if it's the food that's causing the itching. I also give Tatum the salmon oil on top of her food in hopes that it will make her coat grow faster and nicer but she's never had itching so I don't know how it works for that. Good luck! |
no he doesnt have any flea or tick. the vet give him the revolution for his ich. the lady tat i got him from tell me to feed him the baby food with his food. the vet say tat there is noway a puppy his age should b scratching like tat. his only 6 and a half month. he scratch all day and drag himself on the carpet. |
wat brand name food should you guys recommend me using for him? i use Eukanuba puppy food. |
I see you are in Arlington and was wondering about your vet. Revolution is for fleas. I have 4 yorkies under 1 year and I feed Eukanuba and Natural Balance mixed. It really sounds to me like you need to see a different vet. If you dopn't know onw, let me know and I will recommend the best I know in this area! |
the vet give me the revolution for his ich or for his scratching, but they didnt find any flea on him. i was goin to take him to a diff vet on monday to check to see wats wrong wit him. plz let me know which vet is good around arlington. the vet that i take him to say tat its could be a disease tat he could catch from other dogs and could lose all his hair. they did a lab test on his skin but couldnt find anything wrong with him. i think he had this problem befor i bought him. the lady i got him from work with a vet and they say they check him out but notin wrong with him. i call her back to check on other dog but she say noting wrong with them. i think she is lying to me. well hope to hear from u asap on the vet u recommend.. thank you.. |
I have seen several vets in the area...the year I have been here, and was NOT impressed. The vet I finally found is awesome and she has plenty of time for your baby and shows her love and concern for them. Her name is Dr Kelly Gibbs 1461 East Renfro Burleson, TX 76028 817-477-7387 I am sure she would get you in right away tomorrow. She is easy access right off I20 thru Arlington to Burleson. When you call tell her where you live and the receptionist will give you very easy directions. Also she is NOT a high doller vet and I just know she will get to the cause of your pups problems and solve them. Good Luck |
when you go to vet Ask her about the " chicken and rice kidney cleansing diet" since she is both itching and scooting now. (anal gland problem) She may just express the gland for you and recommend some different food. Glad it's a lady vet because the men can be a bit much with their large findgers if they have to go up in at all to see if they expressed all of it. |
