Please let us know what happens at the vet tomorrow! |

The vet prescribed Childrens' Benedryl tablets. You might want to ask your vet about allergies and Benedry. The tablets get split in fourths, and the dosage would depend on your Yorkies size. This is just a guess though, and I am probably way off base as to what your furkids problem is. Please drop us a note and let us know what you found out. Good luck! |
Jazzie battled the itchies since she was 3 mo old. Everytime I took her to the vet he gave her cortizone shots and it stopped the itching immediately. But knowing cortizone is a steroid I got worried and took her to a veterinary dematologist and had her tested for allergies. Believe it or not she is allergic to (in order of most sensitive to less): 1. CATS!!! 2. Dust mites 3. Seasonal pollens So, out went all the carpet to eleminate the dust mites. Covered the beds with hypo-allergenic matress covers, and finally had to step up the cleaning and dusting including washing her bedding once a week. It really helped. She is now on Natural Balance Duck & Potato formula and I give her over the counter antihistamine (on the advice of the doctor) on higher wind days. She has been itch free for a while now. |

It was awful - all she did was scratch. He told me to give her 1/4 of a tablet of Children's Benedry every 8 - 10 hrs., and it works. I don't think she has a bad case of allergies though. You may want to ask your vet about it, as the dosage depends on the weight of the dog. Please let us know how you made out at the vet appt. |
sorry take so long to write back. i just recently take the puppy to a new vet and have them check him out. they did another skin scaping test and the found scapies on the puppy. it wasnt any allergic problem. the puppy had it b4 we pick him up from. so now we have to treat him with revolution to kill the scapies. |
if any1 that lives in texas or anywhere, i wouldnt recommend this lady to nebody. her website is caddocreekkennels.com. i know her puppies is cute and everything but its not worthy to buy a puppy and have to waste all this money on the vet just to treat a puppy wen its not ur fault. she sold the other 2 sister to some1 and i just hope the dont catch the scapies that my puppy catch. thanks for all the help everyone. |
Raven use to itch like that alot too. The vet also prescribed childrens benadryl tablets (1/4 of a tablet). That worked really well. I also changed her food, she was eating Little Ceasers, now she eats Purina Healthy Benefits. Good Luck - Kim |

my puppy itches a lot too. i have to go get some children's benadryl. |
I use K-9 advantix, it treats fleas, ticks, and miscidoes. (don't think I spelled that right). but it sounds to me like it may be the shampoo that you are using. Or possibly even an allergy. What type of shampoo are you using? And what type of food are you using? I would ask the vet for a recomendation on the shampoo, and try that first. Also when you bathe him, make sure you water is not really warm. Just luke warm, almost cool. The water itself can make a huge difference! Their skin is very sensitive. Hope that this helps a little! |
wow!~ guess I should have read further before posting!! That is bad! I know that people can get scabies as well. I wonder if you should treat yourselves, and your home, kind of like head lice??? |
scabies is an sarcoptes mites. it can only get from skin contact with another that have this problem. its hard to find this mites. i have to take him to 2 different vet. the first vet didnt find the scabies but she give me Revolution to treat it neways. the second vet find a dead scabies on the puppy and they give me Revolution to treat it. its like 70% of the time that u cant find it with skin scaping. |
wow, thats interesting information! Thanks for sharing! Hope your baby feels better! |
