| They recover quickly and then comes the challenge of keeping them quiet. I had one that drove me mad....I swore she was going to mess up the surgery but she (and I) survived.

| So do I keep her in the pen and allow her just to go out for potty breaks? That's what I am doing now and I let her walk about on a very short leash. Then do I slowly increase her walking about time? How long did it take before yours were able to walk about the house again? |

They are usually pretty limited for at least 8 weeks sometimes more.

| Oh, yes, she goes on Monday to have the sutures out (yay) and hopefully she won't need as much of the meds. She really hates the gabapentin but it has really helped to keep her calm. Hopefully she'll be much stronger by the time our nice weather arrives. |

| Probably the only thing we can do for our pets in this situation is just to alleviate their suffering, maybe our efforts will lead to some results. Now I will explain my opinion with my own example. My corgi named Reggie had joint problems (I didn't know that). After he started limping and I immediately took him to the vet and he said it was arthritis in the dog's hips. He prescribed a couple of meds and supplements and explained what times to give them as well as how many times a day. Also, after reading a blog where I learned about the treatment and prevention for arthritis in dog's hips. I then began to follow this advice, put my Roggie on a diet, began giving pain medication, and did a special workout, which was intended for those who are rehabilitating. Eventually, Roggie was able to beat his arthritis and now he is sleeping in the house. He is six years old. |

I take it that the bottom line of the story is that the dog may be sick because the owner is indifferent to his pet. I don't agree with the conclusion.

I don't agree with the idea of the story that owners are to blame for their pets getting sick. In this story, you are the only one to blame.

It all depends on the owner. If he cares about his pet, he will make sure that the pet does not have any health problems.
