Yorkie Yakker | Parvo Diagnosis Hi, I just got a new puppy and she’s 11 weeks and 1.5 lbs. We’ve had her 4 days. Noticed she was not eating much on day 2. The next morning I woke up and she was completely out of it. I gave her some honey and Rushed her to the vet. When we got there, they checked her blood sugar which was 300 from the honey, and recommended a parco test. The test came back positive for parvo. It’s been 2 days since the test and we’ve been treating her at home with antibiotics, anti nausea and the hydration pack. My concern is whether she actually has parvo or not. She was vomiting (brown - looked like food) the first day we got her and we chalked it up to stress and motion sickness. She had a very long drive. She also has not had any diarrhea. Her issue seems to be being lethargic and we believe it’s likely from not eating. Breeder told us that none of the dogs from her litter have parvo. We brought her straight home and have never had a dog with parvo. She was vaccinated on the 18 of December and the breeder said the positive has to be incorrect and believes it’s due to the vaccine. The vet said absolutely not possible. I am so confused and stressed out!! I can’t find any info that says it’s a possibility for the test to come out positive due to a vaccine, in fact, I’ve only read the opposite. Sorry for the long post/vent session. Any information is much appreciated. |

Yorkie Yakker | Update: she is eating baby food but doesn’t want any type of dog food, she’s also not drinking g water on her own. She’s not vomiting, no diarrhea. I’m just so confused. Any insight would be appreciated. |

| if she tested positive for Parvo - she has Parvo - Parvo can be mild, and puppies can get Parvo even when they get vaccinated as the first vaccination is often not effective ( hence the need to vaccinate multiple times ) because the antibodies from their moms counteract the vaccine ... it is also possible that the vaccine given wasn't kept at the right temperature, was damaged in transport or ... that the breeder is less than truthful. Puppies are a big business ... I would not put much stock in whatever a breeder tells me to be honest. Keep on doing what you are doing, listen to the vet. Try broth instead of plain water, watch the blood sugar carefully and feed babyfood or anything she'll eat often ... keep her warm and comfy. Puppies can recover from Parvo and no the Parvo test can come back very weak positive right after vaccination BUT in that case all vets I know re-run the test ... a positive Parvo test should be taken seriously ... and the 18th is not anywhere close enough to warrant a vaccine reaction or a false positive result !! The breeder should know that - she is simply in denial Last edited by flybear; 12-31-2022 at 09:31 AM. |

| My advice is to take her to a vet ASAP. Parvo is nothing to mess with and she probably should be hospitalized.

| Parvo can come in on shoes and things you don’t think of. A small puppy with parvo really should be hospitalized. I really doubt the test was wrong but you can always have them retest. Parvo can affect different dogs differently. Also don’t give a puppy honey, puppies and baby’s can’t fight off if there are botulism spores so karo syrup or a paste the pet store sells is much better. Wetting down the dry food might help or hand feeding but if they are sick they aren’t going to want to eat.
