| Pneumonia Jaya, 3lbs, 14yo. She was misdiagnosed last week with heart failure. 3 days later, I took her to a cardiologist, who diagnosed pneumonia. Her ultra sound with the cardio. shows some damage to the heart from the pneumonia, but no heart disease. She was taken off the heart med, which just made her feel worse, kept on Lasix, put on Clavomox. She will also be on some pressure reducing drugs, one is Viagra, but it's coming from a compounding pharmacy. She gets a little weaker every day, voluntarily drinks water, but very little food. Lots of NutriCal and yogurt by syringe. Does anyone know of anything else I can do for her? I've done some chest massage and right now she's sitting in a very light steam. My heart is breaking. Anyone been through this? Please pray for little Jaya. Thank you. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Oh gosh, poor thing ! My thoughts are with you. Have you tried feeding wet food...basically any brand she likes at this point...? Tried sprinkling Parmesan cheese on her food?

| Pnuemonia Thank you, Ann for your kind thoughts. Right after I posted yesterday, Jaya literally feel over and we went to emerg. vet again. It was heartbreaking and scary. But they said she is actually better, new X-ray shows her lungs are clearing, that she is just weak from the effort to breathe. Stepped up her feedings to every 3 hours. She's been on wet food for some time before this, have been syringing and NutriCal for about a week now. She never leaves my side and I'm not feeling she's in pain, she's eager for her yogurt, potties just fine. Thanks for your help, as always, one day, sometimes minute, at a time. |

| Praying for your little Jaya to recover. I do not have any experience with pets and pneumonia, but my dad had it a couple years ago as a senior. He was very weak for awhile. I read on PetMD to let the dog get plenty of rest, and encourage them change sleeping positions frequently to prevent fluid buildup in one spot. Chest rubs should be good. Keep up updated.

| Thank you. She seems a little stronger today. She's been able to walk without falling. I will turn her when she's sleeping, she can sleep for hours on end. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers. |

| Jaya is a little weaker than she was this morning, but ok. She cried out once this afternoon, never has done that. Vet says that Cerenia will also help with pain, I can't seem to find anything to support that. Skeptical about vet since mis diagnosis. I gave her 1/4 tab hoping it helps. Can anyone share their experiences with Cerenia, works great for nausea, any affect on pain? |

I found this information on a vet blog about Cerenia: " VIN (the Veterinary Information Network) had a Rounds discussion not so long ago on this very topic, entitled, “Cerenia: Is It The New Anti-Inflammatory, Anti-Allergy, Analgesic, Anti-Emetic, Anti-Obesity, And Antidepressant Wonder Drug?” Cerenia (maropitant) is a tachykinin antagonist which acts by inhibiting the binding of substance P. Cerenia is labeled only for treatment of nausea and vomiting, but can potentially be used extra-label for pain, inflammation, GI disturbances, allergies and immune diseases, bladder inflammation, CNS and spinal cord injury, and mast cell diseases. Treatment schedules should be 5 days on, 2 days off or every other day as continuous dosing depletes substance P which leads to tremors. "

| Right after I posted, she stopped breathing, tongue was blue, she was limp, I don't know maybe a minute went by, I was sure she was gone. Then I heard a little noise, I was shaking her and she started breathing again. 24 hr vet is 5 minutes away my neighbor drove me. She's in the oxygen unit. I came home. If sheaves it she will be atleast overnight. I've never been with out her. She looks bright eyed, she's standing. Please pray. thank you. |
