Odd behavior after injury
Our 6 year old Parker had an accident on Sunday, 3 days ago, where he was chasing his ball at the park and chased it into the wash (dry riverbed) where he stumbled and smacked his jaw against some large rocks while running full speed. He's been to the vet who saw no visible signs of injury, no tooth sensitivities, no gum sensitivity, no skeletal injury, no range of motion issues to suggest muscle injury like whiplash, and no sign of infection or any open cuts or sores in his mouth/jaw area. There are no visible signs of injury, no swollen muscles, his vet has been in practice for 30 plus years, so he knows what he's doing and I trust his diagnosis.
The night of the accident he was grunting and not moving around, which is how he acts when he's sore. The next day he was okay, doing a lot of licking the air like a frog catching flies, which he does on occasion, so it didn't raise concern. His tongue has been sticking out just a touch, too, but that's also something he does, not abnormal. His stamina on his walks in the morning before the Vegas heat kicks in was visibly reduced, but he's eating, going to the bathroom, and walking around like normal.
On the second day he started obsessively licking his paws and licking and nibbling at our legs, ankles, arms, everything. It feels almost like he's trying to suckle like a puppy would on a nipple while feeding. He's a pretty neurotic little guy, but he's never had this kind of behavior before.
Has anyone else had a similar experience? Any yorkies acting funny after injury? Obsessive behavior or licking/nibbling? |
