I went to see Sasha again tonight. The doc said everything has been "phenomenal". She used a new surgery technique that did not cut any tendons. Sasha is already putting weight on the leg. She needs at least one week complete rest for everything to start to heal but doc is predicting a faster than normal recovery. The scary part is over and now the work begins. She comes home tomorrow! I want to say THANK YOU to everyone who sent their prayers and thoughts during this time. The thing that unites everyone on this site is their love of their companions and that bond showed in the compassion showed toward Sasha. THANK YOU ALL !! |

1 Attachment(s) She is going tonight for her 1st treatment. Cold laser to help heal the cut, I think. The 1st day we took her home we put her in a playpen but she kept trying to jump. We bought a large cage so she could have a bed, food water and pee pad. She does not like the cage (we never crated her) but she is getting used to it. Keeping her still is the hard part. I was holding her in the recliner Saturday. She seemed like she wanted to pee so I set her on the pad. I blinked my eyes and she jumped on the couch to be with her brother! How can she jump when she just had the top of her femur cut off?? |
Wha..wha..what?!!! Just seeing this now but great news! I'm glad it's over and Sasha is doing well. Listen to your mom... no jumping little one! Keeping them still is hardest thing to do after surgery. I find using the stroller helpful, you can wheel her from room to room and keep a closer eye. |
Tie a cinder block around her neck to keep her from JUMPING!!! She could do some damage to that unhealed surgery if she jumps OFF that couch! |
Aww sweet girl!! she looks content to be home and I'm sure she will be back to normal in no time! |

Just for a note of encouragement, it wasn't that long ago I had to have an FHO done on my Kelpie thanks to the neighbor's bull breaking into my yard. She was two days out of surgery and she almost knocked me over chasing the cat. I thought she would be sore and quiet. She spent the rest of her recovery leashed. Your precious baby girl should recover surprisingly quickly and be bouncing off the walls in no time. The hard part is keeping her occupied while she recovers. Puzzle toys, raw meaty bones, etc to help pass the time for her. Best wishes!! |
Update: She went for her 2nd treatment and the vet said she is "ecstatic" with her recovery so far. We bought 2 good size cages and left one at home and put one in my office. I have taken her to work every day this week so I can keep an eye on her. The hard part is that she does not know that she just had a major surgery and needs to heal. She has been living with pain for so long that I think she just thinks it is normal to run and play in pain. And poor Max! He is terrified of that cone on her head. I'll put her down on the floor and as soon as she starts walking toward him he runs away. She gets the stitches out next Thursday and hopefully loses the cone also. There is still a long way to go but so far we have been blessed with her progress. |

It is 3 weeks today since the surgery and all is well with Sasha. Incision has healed well and the doc is extremely happy with her progress. :) I am having a problem today though. Today is the 1st day I have not taken her to work with me and I think I am going through withdrawal pains! :( I keep looking at the empty cage in my office. Since she had the stitches out I had been letting her move freely within my office and today when I get out of my chair I am making sure to avoid a dog who is not even there! I thought about setting up a camera at home to watch her but then I would not have accomplished a single thing at work today! |
Went for the 4 week check up today and the surgeon couldn't be happier with the results. They took an x-ray today and we looked at the before and after. She said it couldn't be healing any better. I still remember how much of a wreck I was on the day of the surgery and to see her now is amazing. The fur has grown back enough to cover the scar, Sasha and her brother are back to cuddling, tussling and just being that terrible troublemaking tandem we fell in love with. |
