I agree 100% Maximo, my boyfriend and I were just stunned when we picked her up and listened to everything they were telling us. megansmomma, no they didn't remove the growth/tumor. That was actually the main reason we took her to the vet. At first I was upset that they didn't remove the tumor first but then after I thought about it I was glad because I would much rather Lilly wake up during a dental cleaning than during the tumor removal. I am going to call them today and request to just pay for the blood work and them give it to me so I can take her elsewhere. They ended up not charging me for anything Friday. |

Anesthesia is what is used to put your baby to sleep for a procedure. The vet tech or anesthesiologist that is supposedly trained to administer the anesthesia, has your baby's life in their hands....too much gas and the pup can die on the table....not enough gas and pup wakes up in the middle of the procedure. Your pups experience thankfully, went the way of not enough anesthesia.....your pup could have not survived that little "malfunction". I personally would not be comfortable pushing my luck and trying again. This vet makes me VERY apprehensive and I would find another vet.....I can not imagine the horrific outcome of doing surgery and the anesthesia machine "quits working" mid procedure. |
Good to hear you are. Finding another vet! |

I think you need to look for another vet!! |
So glad you cancelled... I have been thinking about what you were going to do! So concerning making the decision to go ahead with put them under anesthesia and then something going wrong.... Could have ended worse :( |
In looking for a new vet, I suggest you look for one that is AAHA accredited. https://www.aaha.org/pet_owner/about...h/default.aspx |
Sounds like a strictly second-rate vet clinic with lack of proper equipment or veterinary protocols. I would grab my dog and run from that place, never to return. What the heck did they reschedule her for the very next day until they had her further checked for what could have caused her breathing problems and that anesthesia machine inspected and repaired/re-certified or totally replaced? I cannot believe that they used it on other surgeries that day after having problems with your dog, seemingly to further check it out! One would expect a professional veterinarian to immediately stop all that day's surgical procedures, call in the repair technician for on-the-spot repairs or replacing it with a loaner machine. What a close call. Thank goodness you are moving on from that clinic. |
good for you I would do the same thing |
I definitely would get another vet no question there. You would also feel better and have no regrets. Susan |
Just thought I'd post an update for everyone on Lilly. The vet ended up calling me back Monday evening and spoke with me for a while on the phone about what had happened Friday. They let me know that they did in fact end up canceling all of their surgeries Friday after what happened with Lilly. The vet apologized numerous times and said they honestly didn't know what had happened. She said they thoroughly checked the machine and everything was fine with it. So she chalked it up to "a 1 in 12 year freak accident." The vet I spoke with on Monday evening was actually another vet at the same facility. She asked if I would bring Lilly in Tuesday morning (yesterday) and she would be the dr to perform the dental and removal of growth. After her reassuring me several times that she would make 100% sure nothing bad happened, I made the appointment. Lilly had her dental done yesterday and her growth removed and everything went perfect. I was extremely nervous but I just prayed about it and tried to leave it in God's hands. She ended up having to have 3 teeth pulled and they removed the growth. She is now home and is healing and resting. I appreciate everyone's input and suggestions, I knew I could come here and not be "the crazy dog lady." |
Glad everything turned out fine! Curious what did your vet charge you for all of this? Did they give you a break? |
Thanks for the update. So glad she made it through alright and they removed the growth. She is beautiful. |

I am just now seeing this and so happy that it finally turned out ok. I have ever heard of such a thing, but it will forever be on my mind when my girls go under. |
