| Allergies-again My poor Chibi. I don't know what's going on the last week or so. He has allergies, this we know but he only ever chews on his front left paw. For 3 years now, front right paw is brown from him always licking it, he goes through seasons where he's more itchy than others but always just that paw. Now this last week he has been chewing at his other paw. I had to put a sock on his foot he was chewing on it so much. We woke up at 2 in the morning and I put some anti itch stuff on it that seemed to calm it down some but it's all red and inflamed. The thing that's weird is nothing's changed. He has special food, I bathe him once a week, he takes allergy medicine, we've stuck to our normal routine. Why are his allergies flaring up now?? Just when I thought I had him under control, he's been doing so well Has anyone else had an allergy baby that gets worse for no reason? I guess maybe a vet trip is in order but should I get blood work or any specific things I should ask? I really hope this is a temporary fluke, I already do so much special and extra care for him, I don't know what else I can do. He's so itchy it's breaking my heart.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Yes, I have allergy dogs that "flare" - the reason is that some pollens will bother them more than others, and pollens do come and go in the environment. What meds are you giving? Have you tried Atopica, Apoquel, Temaril-P, or steroids (steroids for intermittent allergies)?

| He does have little flares but what's bugging me is he has never chewed on his other paw. We have been in TX 3 years now, is he suddenly more sensitive or is the allergens worse than ever before? He is on temeral-p now after the middle of the night incident but I woder if there is something else I should be doing or checking on. It has been years since he has been this bad, and never has he chewed his other paw until now. I just worry I'm missing something

| Allergies are a pain to figure out. Bentley is on Hill's Z/D dry food from the vet and has controlled his food allergies. He also has environmental allergies and was on allergen shots. I stopped the shots to see if he would be ok and he did fine without them. He was totally fine and then he had his anal glands expressed by the vet who sprayed him with a perfumed smell (I hadn't known as I was not with him in the back). I had coincidentally switched from ALL hyper allergenic detergent to Arm and Hammer detergent. What a mess Bentley became...itching and just not comfortable. I took him a bath and got All detergent and washed his bed and anything related to him. He is now back to his normal self. I will be telling the vet tech not to put anything on him from now on just in case it was the spray applied. So it seems the slightest deviation of something will effect him and maybe you may think of something your Chibi has been exposed to differently. I know how upsetting it is to have our furkids be in any kind of discomfort from allergies.
