Dry skin or what? This is my first time here. My 4 month old Gunner has flakes all in his pretty black hair. I brush him every day and have been bathing once a week, but skipped this weekend for dry bath. Is it just dry skin? What will clear it up? |
What shampoo and conditioner are you using? What are you feeding him? |
Dry skin or what He eats only Science diet and the shampoo is from wal mart for dogs. |
I was told it wasn't good to use a conditioner. What is the best shampoo to use? |
I am not crazy about Science Diet and if you do a search on YT you will find many, many threads on what to feed your Yorkie. There are also many threads on the shampoo/conditioners we all use. I don't know why someone would tell you not to use conditioner on your puppy but most of us do as it helps to straighten their coats out after the shampoo process, just like a humans. Oatmeal shampoo will help with the dry skin and I would also use a conditioner. |
Thank you so much for the info I will check into the food topic. I think I will enjoy having such informed and careing people there when I need them. Thanks |
My Bentley had the same problem. Sometimes Yorkies can be allergic to corn so I would switch if their food has corn. I also squeeze a capsule of Omega 3 fatty acid for dogs on his food everynight to help with his coat in skin. After a few weeks, we have noticed a huge difference! Good luck. |
Cindy, you asked and answered everything I was going to. At least we're on the same page! |

Whole grain corn is the very first ingrediant. Everyone in this area thinks Science Diet is wonderful, I'm finding out different from all the yorkie lovers here. I am so thankful I got onto this forum. I will be changing Gunners food as soon as I can figure out what is best to change him to. What do you feed Bentley? |
