Help! The tick head is still there. I could just choke hubby!!!! The Hubs noticed Deuce licking his leg and when I looked I found a tick. Hubby quickly grabbed a tweezer and tried to pull it out no matter how much I told him that I had a tick removal tool to use. The tick head is still in. Ugghhhh. Well I cleaned it with alcohol so what do I do now?? Deuce is not fussing with it thank goodness. Suggestions? |

Uh oh. I'm not sure if this method in the video would work on just the tick's head, but it might be worth a try. |

this is good to know. I hear a lot about people finding ticks all the times on their dogs. I have had dogs for the last 25 years and never once had to pull a tick out but then again I never really looked for them, is that odd do you think they have had ticks all along and I did not know. We live in a semi country environment and I have take them all sorts of places including woods and wet lands and have not had a problem with fleas or ticks |
I'd call the vet so see if he thinks your dog needs to be seen or what to look for but obviously a retained tick head can mean infection so watch for spreading redness and swelling. I've always heard you never roll or twist a tick because of the barbs in their mouths causing extra damage at the site as they struggle to hold tight and you must force them out with heat, tick shampoo or pull them straight and directly out with tweezers up next to the skin but never rolling them. I don't know if that's true about the barbs hurting the wound more or not but I've heard that retained tick heads usually come out on their own if they don't swell in or become infected. |
I have used this method removing 25 ticks from 3 dogs...they just drop off intact with no after effects or skin irritation whatsoever... I don't think this method would be suitable for a retained tick head. Shirl |

The Hubs is going to treat the yard. WE have many squirrels and stray cats that come through. I think that may be our problem here. I've been watching the spot on Deuce's leg and I can still see the head scabbed over. No infection just a slight reddness around the area. I put some antibiotic on and there is no discomfort. We will keep watch on it. Hopefully his body will discharge it quickly. I have a tick puller for future problems . . . if necessary. I have reminded the hubs about it. Poor guy feels like a bad daddy |
Been watching the tick site. Well good to say not red and no infection. Of course Deuce likes to lick it but it's not irritated. Actually I can't see the tick particles so i'm thinking he licked them out already. Yuck. I will check him every day from now on!!!!!!! We use Revolution for heartworm, tick and flea control since he has reactions to all the other heartworm products. They say I can use a flea med if necessary. Let's see what the rest of the season brings. |
