Help! Vaginal drainage from pregnant yorkie

Well, Baby's not pregnant. She has mucometra and had to stay at the vet for 4-6 days. They're going to give her medication that causes the uterus to contract. I feel so bad. She has to be really scared. She's never been away from home and kept in a cage. She always sleeps with me at night. They said I can visit her, but I think that might confuse her. She might think I'm there to bring her home and then she'd be disappointed. I don't know if I can do that to her.

I'm glad that you got her to a vet, whew. I assume they will spay her as part of her treatment? Did they say she had Endometrial cystic hyper plasia as a cause of this or can mucometrIa happen isolated of that? What a roller coaster of emotions! I am so sorry your little girl has to go through this and so so glad you took her to a vet and got her taken care of. I wish expedient healing to your little lady, glad she is taken care of

When one of my pups had to stay several days at the I thought the same way you did, so I never went. My last girl was at vet for several days, tech called me to come visit her, I told her what my feelings were, the tech told me it's good for the dog, I forget her exact words because it was years ago, but it had to do with the dog gets excited, and thats a good thing. I am sure there are members here that can explain why it's best to see your pup. Now if my pup has to be at vet for several days, I visit everyday. Yes it breaks my heart to go, because, yes he thinks he's coming home, but I know it's in the best interest for my baby.

Thanks Lilah, I'm glad I finally found out what was going on too. The vet only said she had mucometra, so I'm not sure about the other. I can ask today. I'm going to visit her and take her food. She only eats people food, so they don't have any to give her. I make all her food with meat, brown rice and vegetables. It will be hard to see her so unhappy, but I have to make sure she's eating.

Thanks Joan. Now I understand. Dogs in a cage are probably depressed and just lying around with no motivation to get better or even live. When they see their owner, they get all excited and have hope of going home. Maybe that's all they need to improve their outlook on life and get better. I will visit Baby today and stay as long as they'll let me. I miss her terribly, but as much as I miss her, I know she's missing me and home even more.

Yes its all that your said but more on a medical level, They allowed me to take my pup out to walk, I would sit in my car so I would have pvt. time with him, to talk to him, cuddle, hug, kiss him. I am so happy you have decided to visit her. It's sad when they have to be away from us, we suffer as much as they do, well I do anyway, Please keep us posted,... Joan

I can't wait to visit now. I didn't know that they would allow you to take them outside. Baby will love that! Of course, they might not let me take her out if she has an IV. I'm a nurse and I would know what to do, but they probably won't take a chance. She could get excited and pull out the IV.

I will let everyone know how it goes. I think I will take her favorite pink squeeky toy.

My baby had IV in him also, I asked if I could take him outside, as they were disconnecting the IV, I got nerviness, asked how long can I keep him off the IV, they told me not to worry, to visit as long as I wanted, I stayed an hour every day until he came home. You can ask, it's so much more comfortable to have pvt. time with them, you can act the fool in privacy of your car lol. Great idea, if they will allow it. I have to take everything home, collar, harness. I never asked if he could have a toy. My clinic does not want the responsibility in case something may get lost.

Thanks Joan. They made me bring her collar home. It's a nice one with rhinestones. I think they might let her keep her toy though. It's old and ratty and I don't care if they lose it. I'll buy her all the toys she wants when she gets home.

I just got back from visiting Baby. She seems very energetic and I didn't notice any vaginal discharge. It appears that the treatment is working so far. I didn't talk to the vet though. They seemed swamped so I thought I would call later. I didn't get to visit long because she was too hyper and nervous. She almost pulled her IV out, so I had to leave. She did get her food and toy though, so I hope she eats now.

Well this is a new one for me. I have never heard of the before. So happy that you pup it doing well and getting the care that she needs. Also I feel like the more she sees you the less depressed she will become.


Did they say what caused it ?

This is a condition that I would think all breeders should know about. When reading about pyometra, mucometra is often mentioned. People just breed dogs and don't know of the hazards...I do hope that anyone reading this thread who plans on breeding their pup will do some reading about these conditions.

Did they say what caused it ?

Thanks Dawn. She's doing ok, but she's not eating. Our visit wasn't that great because she kept trying to find an escape route and was too hyper. I was afraid that she would pull her IV out.

As for what causes it, they don't know, only that it is hormone related. The mucus was really thick, but didn't seem to have any odor at all. I'm just thankful that she didn't have pyometra, which is worse.

Poor baby girl just misses her mommy. I've never had to leave any of my babies but I imagine its not easy being left alone or you leaving her.

Now that I think of it a friends pup had this. She was very very sick right after her first heat and needed to have an emergency spay. She was only 3.5 lbs and it was a very scary situation for them both. That baby was in the ICU for 5 days and her mommy was not handling it well at all. I just didn't remember what she said it was called, but now I know. From what I understand it is a bacterial infection that happens when a female goes into heat. It can be hard to determine and can get worse once the cervix closes. Yes, you are lucky that is was caught before it got to that point.
