hope he is better soon |
IF he bit off a tiny bit of the jerky before it was softened it could have caused a tiny tear in his intestine somewhere. Most often it's the large dogs seen with these kinds of intestinal injuries but I have seen them in the small breeds as well & am not a fan of any kind of jerky treats/raw hide type of treats/chews that are hard & soften with chewing/saliva as there is always a risk of a piece breaking off before softened. You say he chewed a chord ? Did he actually eat some of it ? if yes then it may be a piece of wire that caused it. Also he could have IBS or Colitis & anything can set off either of these things. In the future when giving any kind of treats always try one thing at a time & wait several days in between trying out something else new, this way you know what caused the problem. If he continues to eat everything he can get his little mouth on you may want to try a basket muzzle to prevent this behavior. I'll be Praying for him |
Ok we are home now. When we got here he was really happy playing. He had semi solid poop and he peed normal. I gave him a little bit of science diet canned food from the vet but he threw up after that and had diarrhea. Should I try softening his kibble in water? Or boiled chicken? Another kindof food? Maybe wait until tonight for food ? :-/ |
I would call the vet and let him know that Bentley threw up and had diarrhea after eating the canned food. I know this is so worrisome but he is better and the ultrasound didn't show anything bad. Praying for continued improvement. |
I would cook some plain white rice and give him a very small portion and see how he does. If that seems to help, tomorrow boil some chicken and give him a little bit of it with rice. (no fat, just lean chicken bits and rice) Once you see he is getting better add his food a bit at a time until he can eat normal. Good luck |
Was the blood bright red or dark almost black? Bc if it was bright red fresh blood, something's going on in the large intestines or colon. Usu colitis, but in that case, the blood is almost always accompanied by mucus covered poop. But dripping blood sounds worrisome & I thought HGE too...hope Bentley will be ok. Maybe a bland diet will help w/his tummy. White rice, boiled chicken or tilapia. I overcook the white rice w/xtra water to make it soft. Give it to him & see how it goes, if he holds it, maybe mix in a little RX canned food & see how that goes. If I remember correctly, Hill's canned food has a higher fat content (maybe it's different for different issues)...if he continues to throw up, maybe your vet can prescribe something else. Momo eats my hair too it gets stuck on his squeaky ball, sometimes I need to pull out his poopie & my hair comes out w/it! I obsessively clean my floors... |
praying for Bentleys recovery how scary |
Yeah you guys are right. My vet recommended boiled chicken and white rice for 7 days plus his medicine. His blood was bright red the first time, but then it was a very dark color. His poop came out a little bit reddish but solid now. I'll keep an eye on him and take him to my vet for a follow up on Monday. Thanks for everything, the support and prayers really helped. He's acting normal, playing and being himself again. |
My prayers continue, I agree with the chicken and white rice diet. It gives his digestive system time to heal. |
Prayers will certainly continue for Bentley. I hope he is feeling much better soon. |
I just read this whole thread. I'm so glad Bently is doing better. What a harrowing experience! (As well as financially draining! ) Obviously, like many of us, you put your Bently first and worry about the $$ later. That is true love and a good momma. You might want to look into some insurance. They don't pay for preexisting nor do they pay up front; it is reimbursement only, but reading all these threads on YT convinced me that $39/month (the one i went with) is worth it "just in case". If I never use it, great. The company made $$ off me. If I do, though, it's well worth the expense. I hope Bentley continues to improve and returns to baseline. Keep the updates coming! :) |
I just finished reading this thread & am relieved Bentley is doing better! Praying he continues to improve! Can any of share which insurance you've used & why? I've looked into Trupanion but they have a deductible per incident. HealthyPaw is only a yearly deductible with no caps on claims. Any advice? The more I read the more convinced I am we should insurance. ;( |

Hope Bentley will recuperate from this ordeal & not have any more tummy troubles. I would stop those jerky treats, even if it's made in the USA...just don't trust them! |
Wow I just say this. I am so sorry to hear Bentley is sick. Sending lots of good thoughts and blessings he makes a speedy recovery. |
Just read this thread and I'm so sorry you and Bentley went through all of this. I would be beating my head against the wall because of lack of answers. I wish the vet could give you something to blame this on. Prayers for your baby that he makes a full recovery!! |
