So vet says my baby has kennel cough :( Symptoms started yesterday and they have gotten much better today which is good. He obviously stopped the coughing when we decided to make the appointment but when the vet rubbed his throat it came back thus the diagnosis. He is on an antibiotic so he doesn't catch any other bacteria in the meantime but other than that we have to wait it out and make sure it doesn't progress to pneumonia :(. can other people who have dealt with kennel cough please let me know what they experienced. I don't like my poor Huxley being sick :( |
Hi, i am sorry i dont have any advice for you but just wanted to say i hope your baby feels better soon.. |
I sympathise with you , as kennel cough is awful. We had it a few years ago and my vet recommended children's tixylix , given a few times aa day to help with the coughing symptoms and that worked great for us. Good luck. |
All three of mine had it a few years ago, when I brought home a foster dog from the local animal shelter. It was sad hearing them all cough. They did get over it and my vet treated them just as your vet is doing. |
He puked again but this time he wasn't coughing so I can't blame that..He was just lying in bed. We gave him his antibiotics last night around 7pm so I don't think it could be that either. I read some dogs puke from kennel cough but that's because he is coughing so hard, should I be worried? :( |
One of mine had kennel cough & she would spit up from coughing. Has your pup vomited since this morning? Maybe he just had a mild upset tummy? Just so you know, the medication won't actually cure the cough. The medicine is so to kill anything that may cause further respiratory infections or pneumonia. I know you know that because you wrote it in your post. But I didn't realize that when my little girl had kennel cough. The cough itself lasts for a long time - even months. So he might not be "sick" anymore, but still have a lingering cough for a while. But that doesn't mean he's not better. :) |
I thought the cough sounded so awful in my three.... like they were trying to spit up their lungs. Poor things. |
Well afte the puking of his breakfast then a bit of yellow foam and finally some clear liquid all within the hour that was it. We gave him so boiled chicken mixed in with his kibble a few hours later and he gobbled that up so fast, appetite has not changed and he is drinking plenty. I wouldn't say he is at his 100% energy level but i think he knows if he gets excited it makes him cough, poor little guy. He still ran one of his obstacle courses (anyone elses do that? he just bolts under chairs, around the table, it's cute lol) a couple of times so i think he just had a bit of an upset tummy for whatever reason, seems okay now. One thing i have noticed is no poop at all yesterday, could his antibiotics be making him constipated? |
