Sick eyes? What should we do? Our 8 year old Kacie Bear has been sick since last night. Her eyes have a yellowish discharge and one eye is milky. She has a warm nose and has been hiding all morning. Her eyes are hard to open and swollen. From our research online it sounds like conjunctivitis. I have washed around her eyes with a warm cloth. There is quite a bit of crusty mucus that has dried up and stuck around her eyes on her fur. What can we do for her? |
Welcome to Yorkie Talk. I would call your vet right away and get her in as soon as possible. Conjunctivitis can cause other more serious eye problems. Make sure she isn't scratching at her eyes. |
I would definitely take her to the emergency vet. It could be conjunctivitis, but that won't cause a fever nor should it make the eye milky appearing. It's possible she has a foreign body or something else going on in that eye. The other eye will be irritated in sympathy a lot of times. Milky appearing isn't good... can progress to loss of vision. Even if it is just conjuctivitis, she needs antibiotic ointment or drops or it will continue to worsen. Good luck & post an update after you see the vet, please. Welcome to YT! |
I would take her to a vet asap |
If it were me. I would take her to a vet. Keep us updated. |
I agree that she needs to see a vet. In the meantime, put warm compresses on her eye. She needs medication and for a doctor to look at it, though. Eye infections can compromise her immune system. I hope LaCie gets better very soon. Please let us know how she is. |
Please take her to the vet asap. They will check her out and give her some meds to get over her eye infection. Susan |
