You need to treat your house is you have other dogs, as well as your yard with bleach. Keep any other dogs away from your dog until the virus is shed (2-4 weeks).

I was told bleach is one of the only household items that will kill it.

There are other things you can buy from the Vet that will kill it, but bleach is cheaper and easier to get in a pinch.

Thanks so much for your advice, words of encouragement but, definitely your prayers. The vet said she ate alittle 5 times yesterday and drank some water. She had perked up and was walking around alittle, responding to her name and waging her lil tail. Today the vet says she had some diarrhea overnight but, no vomiting. She said she also did not eat anything. She's still on IV and antibiotics and they're going to try some can food today. She's also still active. I'm Leslie and you guys rock.

Okay, per ASPCA ( http://www.aspcapro.org/canine-parvovirus.php ) :

Fortunately for shelters, regular household bleach (sodium hypochlorite) is one of the most inexpensive means of neutralizing parvovirus. It should be diluted 1 part bleach to 32 parts water (or 4 ounces of bleach to a gallon of water) to make it safe to use around animals yet still be effective.
Unfortunately, many quaternary ammonium products commonly used in shelters such as Parvosol, Kennel Sol or A33 are labeled as parvocidal, but multiple studies over the past several years have proven they are not very effective.

Another parvocidal disinfectant is potassium peroxymonosulfate or Trifectant®. It is readily available to shelters and has been proven to be parvocidal. Three advantages of Trifectant over bleach are that 1) it has better activity in the presence of organic material and 2) it does not have to be prepared fresh daily like bleach and 3) it is less corrosive to metal surfaces or mucus membranes than bleach.

Whichever disinfectant is used, the surface must be clean before the disinfectant is applied, and it should remain in contact for 10 minutes before rinsing.

I guess the question comes into play of why they say bleach "neutralizes" and Trifectant is "parvocidal".

What is the difference? Not sure.

Bleaching the floors, walls, bedding, etc can't hurt. I still clean with bleach.

My first post 2 years ago was about Noah having parvo. We were leaving to go on vacation and Allie and Noah were going with us after a quick vet appointment. We made it 20 minutes down the road when he started seizing. Needless to say, I had to leave him at the vet the first 4 days because my vacation stuff was non refundable. My mom and daughter visited him until I got back, and I called the vets office 3 times a day for updates. He took a turn for the worse and the vet thought she was going to have to have "the talk" with me but I refused to believe he wasn't going to make it, and that's when I started making sure I was hand feeding him beechnut baby food, the probiotics sprinkled on, skin to fur contact, etc.

He's got the most gorgeous coat of all 3 of my dogs, and you'd never know he was a parvo baby (although he lacks a few social skills that I think he missed out on from being in a cage for 10 days). He's a little neurotic when it comes to food dishes (he can't stand to see the bottom of his dish) and will bark and bark and bark until you come fill it lol.
He loves my husband and will curl up by him and just sit for hours gazing at him....
