I'm sorry to hear Cooper is having issues. I will keep him in my thoughts. Sending prayers your way. |
Daisy had both types of crystals sodium oxalate and struvite and the vet put her on royal canine SO as well. I made sure I also gave Daisy distilled spring water to drink. I took her out to pee every 2 hrs just to make sure she was emptying her bladder. It took Daisy about 4 weeks bf I noticed her getting better and she did have incontinence while she had the crystals. I hope Cooper is feeling better soon:) |
Just seeing this Karen, I glad to see you've found a vet you trust with Cooper. I will keep you both in my thoughts and prayers. Praying he'll be feeling better soon! ;) |
Thanks everyone for your support. I'm really hoping the new food is what is causing the constipation. I put him back on Fromm for dinner and he pooped 2x. Hopefully he will clear up and everything will be ok. I'm wondering if I should try not to "adjust" him when he wakes up "stuck". Gosh I just keep thinking of the visual the vet provided me with this afternoon. :tongue012 I said "OMG please stop. ewwww." But she was all about the education, visualization and the comparison of whether or not he was truly erect. |
I'm so sorry to hear Cooper has been unwell, Karen, and I'm just seeing this thread now. All possible healing vibes for whatever condition he has and that he will be feeling better soon. ((((((((Vibes))))))) And some "reversing the 'what has been seen cannot be unseen'" vibes for you, as I can imagine that would be a difficult image to delete from memory. 0_0 (((((((Hugs)))))) |

I don't mean to imply that Cooper has kidney issues... I just meant to say the licking and erection could be related to bladder infection. In Sammy's case that lead to the discovery of the kidney disease but the vet said there were other possibilities...such as the stones or infection etc. |

How about an ultrasound? Momo had x-rays done & it didn't come out too well either, couldn't really see if his bladder & kidneys were clear, but the vet was sure that he didn't have any stones in there. I'm just baffled as to why the 1st vet thought it was struvites. Hope Coop will be ok. |

Is Cooper just excited now for some reason? Maybe to see you in the morning? My Dex gets this problem usually when I get home from work, he just gets so excited that out it pops and he has to spend 10 mins or more licking until it goes down. |

I caught Cooper humping a new pillow yesterday. I have never seen him hump anything. Ugh. |

Cooper is at the vet now. He pooped enough over the past couple of days for the vet to clearly see the x-ray. Unfortunately he has stones, but she says they are little and he should be able to pass them. However, some of his bloodwork is out of whack and they are now giving him an ultrasound to check out his pancreas. He's going home with an anti-inflammatory, possible antibiotics and new food. And I'm going home broke. I'll keep everyone posted. |
So sorry to hear Cooper has problems. I sure know about the growing broke problem. Hopefully he will pass the stones and the new food will help him to get back to normal. Nothing cheep about owning dogs! I'll keep you both in my thoughts and prayers! |

Cooper is ok! :cheer: The ultra sound came back normal with no masses, growths, etc and his pancreas looked good! His bilirubin is high which could be a result of his stones. We are putting him back on Royal Canin SO, but this time RC Moderate SO which is higher fiber and lower fat. Hopefully he will be able to poop with it. He's also going to be on meloxicam/medicam which will help with his urine and also help him pass his little stones. The vet definitely things his erection problem is either part of the stones issue or he has a secondary infection which is causing him to lick himself, thereby becoming aroused. Ugh. Repeating what the vet says and posting it here is like playing a game of telephone. I have no idea if I posted what she said! |

Glad he's okay! WooHoo! |
So glad to hear Cooper is going to be okay. :) I hope the metacam works for him. Jenna had it for her wrenched back but sadly couldn't take it for long, it really messed up her tummy. :( Poor little guy though. How do they get stones? It has something to do with the fat content in their food? Sending vibes and prayers that he will be back to himself and all better soon. :) |
