Help me please Cassie has a kidney stone in bladder
 

:( Hello all. I haven't visited for a long while-life happenings!

But yesterday I needed to take Cassie to the Vet because she was peeing like crazy-I mean CONSTANTLY! All over our motel room!!!!!! And her urine is so strong and putrid-I mean just like ammonia out of the bottle--and her appetite decreased and she is only 2.3 lbs. And she has inoperable AAI as some of u already know. When I held her she would pee all over me- or the bed! Or carpet---- Completely incontinent now-I cannot find any diapers to fit her-she is so tiny-she is barely there-as if putting on diapers at a time like this were even a good idea-I don't know anymore.

and to make matters worse we are having to live with the girls in a motel for about a month-the girls, my dad who has dementia and myself due to a flood in the house from a broken water pipe! The house is unlivable now-all our things are in storage-and my dad every morning wants to know why we are not going home-I feel like I am going to lose it!

and now the local vet took X-rays and shows me a large kidney stone the size of a marble in Cassie's bladder!

Oh my GOD! It looks so BIG! I am worried sick!!!!!!!!!! Does it hurt my tiny baby? I know NOTHING about kidney stones. What should I know?

I couldn't get an appointment with my holistic Vet down in San Diego yesterday so I went local Vet to see what the problem was ASAP. I am having all records faxed to my holistic vet ASAP!

Is surgery the ONLY option? They said her bladder was too thick to get a urine sample-they tried twice in 2 days and failed, so then they took X-rays and saw the stone. Now she had one shot of bayatril and she is on Clavamox 2X daily every 12 hours.

CAN THE STONE BE DISSOLVED? Without surgery? I want this stone gone ASAP but I am terrified of surgery for her. What is my best option? Should I do this thing fast? I can't stand the thought of this thing inside of her, hurting her. It's making me crazy!!!!!!!!!!

Please please I need some big time advice from all of you wonderful yorkie talkers out there. HELLLLLLLP!!!!!!!!!!

I am sorry your Cassie is having a difficult time.

I honestly don't know of any solution for bladder stones other than surgery.

I will keep her in my thoughts and prayers.

It depends I think on the type of stone.... have the vet get a free catch sample to check for crystals and determine the type.

I'm not speaking from personal experience as my dog has never had bladder stones, but I am on another list (K9Kdiet) where stones are discussed quite often. Much depends on the composition of the stone. Without having the stone analyzed, it would be difficult to know for sure what type of stone it is, but there are certain clues in a urinalysis. If there are crystals in the urine, you may be dealing with CaOx stones. Struvite stones are generally caused by infection and the PH of the urine would be high?

There is a special, home cooked diet that many people on the kidney list have used and had success with for dissolving the CaOx stones and preventing more stones from forming. It's called "Fuzzer Food", and again no personal experience here so I'm just trying to remember bits and pieces of what I've read. Youc can google "Fuzzer Food" for bladder stones and some information will come up. Or consider joining the yahoo group (K9Kdiet) where there are a LOT of people dealing with this issue. Good luck.

We just went through the same thing with our 2nd yorkie lolli pop... Same thing.. She had a stone in her bladder the size of your thumb ! It was huge....being that it was so big the vet had to take it out asap..from what we were told from the vet even marble size will have to have surgery. And sad to say yes very painful while in.... Im sure it will have to come out... Good luck!

My suggestion is to seek the advice of a board certified specialist. With the symptoms she is having, it sounds like that bladder stone is causing issues...and my greatest concern would be if it blocked the urethra. She could end up with a bladder rupture.

Of course I am sure you know that with the AAI, intubation is tricky. She is definitely high risk for surgery; but I have an AAI pup who has been intubated multiple times for necessary surgeries.

Yes, it is terrifying for me to think about but when you mention possible bladder rupture I'm ready to run out and do it this minute!

I am reading a nervous and scared mommie here and can't blame you and sure will be praying for Cassie. Let us know if she is going to have surgery. Praying for Cassie!

I don't know what that vet told you, but I would not want to mess around with a large bladder stone in my pup.

Were you advised that surgery should be done? If so, and you are uncomfortable with that, I would strongly suggest a second opinion.

In the meantime, keep a VERY close eye on her and how much urine she is putting out. I had a pup with bladder stones recently and he did end up blocked and had a tiny rupture in his bladder...fortunately he is now fine.

Cassie is going to have surgery at 1:00PM today
I'm nothing short of terrified. The Vet said the stone was HUGE
compared with her size and took up most of the bladder. We felt
There was No point in waiting and she was in obvious pain.
My holistic Vet agreed and said there were no other choices available
Given the size of the stone and the fact she was in pain. So here I am again
Trembling in my boots with terror. Please pray for my baby.
They say she will be there 24 to 48 hours. I'm a wreck!

I will definitely be praying for Cassie...and for you. I think she is going to be just fine. I have had pups go through that surgery without any problems at all. Matter of fact, one was just recent.

No news yet! The doctor said surgery was for 1pm. I am going to call now to see how she is doing

Cassie, you poor little thing, it must be so painful but it is great that by 1pm today you will be on the way to health without that nasty stone. Thank goodness the vet was able to do the surgery so quickly.
Praying for a successful surgery and a speedy recovery. Try not to worry, your baby will be fine, but it is so hard waiting for him to come out of surgery. Not long now. Warm wishes.

Just called, nothing new yet but it is about noon
Here so they are getting ready for surgery.
I think I will try to sleep as I feel nauseous
And my stomach is quivering and hurts.
Maybe if I can sleep the time will go faster
and I won't feel so sick inside

Please do not fret so, you have to keep strong so that a happy mom is waiting for Cassie after the surgery. She is being well taken care of and in a couple of hours it will be done and Cassie will be awake and feeling so much better. All this has been a big shock to you and it is understandable that you feel upset, but take heart it will be OK!!! Hugs
