puppy ate an advil.
 
hi. my dog is 4months old. but got a hold of a advil pm gell. Im not sure how long ago he ate it though. He keeps throwing up, drinks water though. Plus hejust lays down and sleeps. Which is unusall because normally he follows me wherever i go. He has an appointment for tomorrow morning. Is there anything i can do in the meantime to make him feel better? :confused:

sorry. im using a broken laptop. only ate one. its a sleep aid advil.

I'd go to the vet or at least call the vet immediately.

The vet knows all this & still wants you to wait until morning? I know I'd be calling another vet asap. Who knows what advil pm could do to a pup that's only 16weeks old.

He's probably sleeping because it's an Advil "PM". I would call your vet. Now. Good luck!!!

the vets are closed. i already tried that before posting. all theycould do was make an appointment.

I would be going to a vet....was it the receptionist that told you to wait until tomorrow, or did that come from the vet? Try Googling "Is Advil PM toxic to puppy?" and see what you think you want to do. I would be RUSHING this baby to an ER immediately....How long has it been since he ate the pill???? Is it too late to induce vomiting immediatelky?????? You want to get out as much as you can!!!

Sometimes these things take several days to kill them. It could have done liver damage. At the very best your dog is probably dehydrated and needs IV fluids. I was hopeful when you said he vomited, I thought maybe he vomited the pill up, but the vomiting sounds like it’s caused because some damage has been done. He needs to go to the hospital immediately.

Your pup needs to go to an emergency vet immediately. Liver and/kidneys could be shutting down (permanently) at this point. ?this is a life threatening situation. A vet needs to be involved right now.

I am sorry.......am I understanding this correctly......the puppy ate an Advil PM "a couple of days ago"????????? If that is accurate, the pill is totally absorbed,....immediate vet care is essential to perhaps save this baby at all.........all they can do for the baby now is treat his symptoms as they occur. I am curious why vet care was not sought immediately after the pup ate the pill? I would advise for future use, you google lists of toxins for your puppy....you can get lists of human medicine that can make your baby very ill or even kill him....as well as common household plants, cleaning supplies, stuff in the garage and yard, etc. Also get the number to an emergency vet as well as the poison control center and tape all this information to your fridge..........

I'm so sorry, this sounds very bad. Please go to one of the ER vets listed above ASAP. He depends on you to get this help for him and do what you can to save him, you are the only hope that he has.

If he swallowed the capsule two days ago, his lethargy is not due to the benadryl in the Advil PM, that is long gone out of his system. Please get him to the vet immediately.

Hopefully, you and your puppy are on the way to an er vet. Please in the future make sure you know what is considered an emergency and where to go. Unfortunately these little ones get into life threatening situations quickly. Please keep us posted.

Like others have mentioned, you NEED to take your baby to an EMERGENCY VET NOW!

I'm so sorry to see this post. I was faced with basically the same thing. My baby, Louie, at only three and a half months old, got into something and his liver (almost) completely failed. He was put in the hospital for 8 days and I was heart broken. I'm really hoping your baby is doing okay now, and hopefully she is in the hospital and getting treated!

It sounds like your dog is in serious danger. Please take him to a Vet you can not wait with situations like this.

When I first got Tibbe, I drew the map to the Emergency Clinic on back cover of my day planner in black marker so in a dark car in the middle of the night I wouldn't maybe forget how to get there. I redraw that map on the new book every year. That day planner is my lifeline and always stays in my purse with my keys so I just had to know in case I panicked and forgot on the way, or traffic had me blocked, I could still tell how to get there fast. The last time I went, I was so worried I did make a wrong turn(!) too soon but at least I could turn back at the next intersection. I've made that trip a few times and always when I'm shaking hard so my map is needed!

Not sure if I believe what you say. If you "had" made a Vet. appointment, they would have ask you why your making that appointment, but most importantly, why in heavens name didn't YOU tell the Vet. that your puppy ate a advil? Are you that nuts???? If this is for real, and your not pulling chains here, your puppy will be dead before it sees the Vet. tomorrow. You need to get that pup to the emergency clinic ASAP!!
