| ![]() Tibbe had a dental cleaning under anesthesia Thursday, seemed ok Friday, didn't eat Sat. night, hardly anything yesterday, was lethargic, reverse sneezed for a couple seconds a few times, hacked a few times as if he had a hair in his throat of something and threw up once. I gave him some Famotidine, Cerenia for nausea and baby simethicone & was giving him Pedialyte through the day yesterday. He ate a bit last night, seemingly slept well. This morning he was looking at a cat in the alley through the window as I was just starting to take my first sip of breakfast coffee when he started making a kind of "ack-ack" noise in his throat, arched his neck, ran to me and was shaking all over, still "acking". He seemed to be in max distress, he was shaking so hard. He stood there with his neck in that arched position for a few seconds as I tried to find what was going on. He didn't fall down or seem disoriented at all. His ears felt very hot. I threw down my coffee, half-dressed and off we went to the vet, Tibbe panting heavily and shaking on the way, his body occasionally heaving as if he was hacking/coughing but no noise coming out. The vet could hear no rales or ronchi or anything in his chest, no temp, his throat didn't react to her rubbing around it, didn't feel swollen, his tummy was okay. She thought maybe he had developed some nausea from the anesthesia meds and his throat was irritated to the point of perhaps an infection possibly starting in his trach/throat from the anesthesia tube but I got the impression she's not really that certain right now what is wrong with him. She started him on Clavamox and refilled his Cerenia and allowed me to bring him home. He has eaten soft food twice since being home, drank his water and hasn't RS'd or hacked any more so far. He's very clingy and won't let me leave him without coming along. He's barked at the garbage truck and a couple of things despite my trying to keep him from using his throat at all except to eat/drink. We got a package from sweet Alisha(GuinnessStout) and little Guinness from Florida Saturday that I haven't even opened yet as I don't want to stress or excite him while he is feeling so sick. I do know almost any time he gets nauseated for long, his has short RS episodes of one or two RS's that last about 4 - 8 seconds in length. He doesn't go into the long, stiff-body sessions that little Jilly sometimes had - no, just kind of the beginning of a Reverse Sneeze and stops. I always start talking calmingly to him when he does that and he seems to respond. I just hope keeping him as quiet as possible, hydrated, eating soft food, resting and on his meds can help him kick whatever this is. Once again, I'm here asking for prayers for Tibbe please. ![]()

| ![]() The nausea is probably from the anesthesia. The coughing and RS is very normal post Et tube (as long as it doesn't continue fr too long or tet worse - picking up kennel cough on surgery day may be a consideration). It does sound like a sore throat too. But bc he was acting ok and then suddenly had that arching episode..hmm. My mind goes back to a few months ago when he got sck and the first symptom was a neck issue. Hot ears I suppose could befear. Arud here it means severe spinal pain for Elle.

| ![]() Can he have puppy ice cream with his tummy issues? Or even just ice cubes it might make his throat feel better.

I think my anxiety over anything being wrong with him goes straight to him and scares him silly, too. Funny, working at the doctors' office all those years, people could seize, have a heart attack, fall or faint and I was always Miss Cool in emergencies but around a sick animal, I am a wreck. But it did seem as if he were choking or having some trouble in his throat getting breath from that "acking" sound he was making. He acted a little like Jilly did at first when she choked. I am the worst of mommies for a Yorkie in that way since they tend to be so hypersensitive to people. How in the world can I get a handle on not panicking when he acts really ill? I always think he is going to die right then and there like when Jilly choked on her chewie and stopped breathing. I wish I could learn how not to panic. ![]()

| ![]() Sending prayers for Tibbe that he is just recovering from anesthesia/tube/dental, and that it is nothing more. Max was raspy for a week after his last time under. Jeanie, I can relate to being calm and control in certain very stressful situations, but I lose it when it comes to my family and animals.

| ![]() It is good that he was hacking as far as the neck is concerned anyway. ![]() I used to freak out too. I couldn't even look at Ellieif she was holding a paw up. lol. Spending time at the doggie ER cured me. I'd be much more panicky if it was a person now.

YT 2000 Club Member | ![]() Little Tibbe, I pray he is feeling better. Those dental cleanings are scary. Putting a dog under anesthesia is risky. I just bet that is why he is having trouble. Soft food if he eats that . He is precious! |
