Praying for good results for Armaneo... |
Happy to hear that Armaneo's procedures went well. Hopefully the biopsies will reveal something very treatable! Definitely keeping him in my thoughts and prayers. |
Continued good thoughts & prayers for Armaneo! |
Hows your baby doing? Hope he's feeling better! |
I hope you find something out soon, hugs and prayers |
Biopsy results are back. Good news -- it's not cancer. The bad news is that he has irritable bowel disease that results from over production of lymphocites. I'm not going to pretend like I know what that is, but what it means is that he will be on a medication for the rest of his life. The medication (the name is escaping me) helps reduce and regulate the production of lymphocites in the bone marrow. Hopefully, that should resolve everything! We'll start him tomorrow, and take him in next week to confirm that he is not having adverse reactions. |
Good news, indeed! IBD is fairly common and there are a few members here who can give you some good tips. Did your vet also mention a diet change? Here is a link that might be helpful. Inflammatory Bowel Disease |
The doctor did not mention a diet change. I wonder if that's because she is aware of his current diet and she's decided it's good enough. He is currently eating California Naturals (Lamb Meal and Rice formula). The only other thing he gets is Real Meat (Lamb Jerky Treats). Nothing else. |
Honestly, if it were me, I would consult with a vet nutritionist. I have a pup with IBD...she also has lymphangectasia. She is on a home cooked diet, but that is mostly due to the lymphangectasia. There are a few members here who can give you better feedback about diet than I can. |
Great news! Hope he's feeling better soon! |
Hope the meds work & he'll feel better very soon! |
Gizmo was just diagnosed with IBD back in November through endoscopy and colonoscopy. How is your little one doing? Gizmo is on steriods currently but i am looking into a holistic vet. I dont want him on the steroids when he has flare ups for life. |

Our vet doesn't think that the allergy testing I suggested is accurate so that's why I was going to look into a holistic vet. My perfect pet dog food company works with vets to create a custom diet so we are looking into that too. How else could you find out what he's allergic to besides an elimination diet? |
I honestly did not know that allergy testing was needed for a dog with IBD. I think there are foods you can give without going through all of that.....again, I personally swear by veterinary nutrionists. I have done consults with my sick pups and had great success. One was diagnosed last year with lymphangectasia and I am home cooking for her..she is doing fantastic. Another one has a protein losing nephropathy plus liver and gall bladder issues...she is on Purina NF and doing well....she will not eat any people food (go figure..haha) Both diets were suggested by the nutrionist. |
