My Yorkie is Sick! Advice My yorkie was flown in on a plane to me 3 weeks ago and ever since he got off the plane he does this breathing thing, it sounds like a grumbling in his chest, he also does this choughing sound from is stomach and then he will gage and then sneeze. When he came home the first few nights he would just lie down, Then a took him to the vet and they put him on a medication called Chlor Palm 125 Suspension for 7 days after the first few day on the medication he started playing and jumping but he is still doing the thing I described in the beginning. Then I brought him back to the vet a week later and she gave him his second shot but he was still doing the same thing, The vet said to keep him on the same medication for 3 more days to see if he will get better. The last Friday he was not eating or drinking and not responding to my voice so I rushed him to the animal Hospital and she gave him fluids through an IV and put him on a diferent medication called (Clavamox drops 15ml) and he should take 0.25ml for 7 days, So far he has been on the medication for 4 days and it doesn't seem to be helping, He is eating and drinking and is very playful but the coughing and breathing has not changed, the vet she suggest x-rays of his chest and blood work, Anyone have any advice, I love my little Yorkshire, he is now 13 weeks old and soooo Cute! Thanks, Melissa |
I have never had those problems, but I think I would insist on an xray and bloodwork. Could it be pneumonia? I'm sure you will get a lot of good advice from others who are more experienced than I am. Good luck! |
Sorry to hear that your furbaby is sick :( I would definitely get bloodwork and x-rays done to see what's going on in there...Keep us posted about your baby. We'll be praying for him! |
I'm NO expert but mMy first thought is pneumonia too... :( and you are doing the right thing getting treatment ASAP - poor baby - if you catch it and can treat it then he could be fine ....but he can't go on like this - I really hope your baby is going to be ok...I hate to say this but it sure sounds like they sent you a sick yorkie and that's so sad for him ....and very sad for you too - |

Did you take him to the vet or not? If you did not you NEED to. |
I would get the x-rays done with the blood-work... If that doesn't show anything~~~ Seek out another vet for a second opinion. Have you spoke with the breeder on any of this??? See if any of the other litter mates are having any problems??? Have you had a fecal done on him, to make sure he is clear of worms??? Worms can take down a puppy and make them feel bad. End result seek medical attention for this little one have them rule out all the obvious. I have to wonder about the shipping of a puppy this time of year, due to weather. |
I think you're doing the right thing. You have had him to the vet a couple of times. And, he's been on more than one medication so far. Get the x-ray and whatever blood work your Vet wants now. That may help him come up with a more definitive diagnosis. Also - if you're worried about the treatment he has been given so far, just visit another vet and let him know everything that has been done so far. He will probably agree with the first vet, but you never know. He may have had more experience with this particular problem or have run across something recently regarding this sort of problem. My husband was a physician and I have worked in the medical profession for more than 30 years. I can tell you for certain that often very good doctors treat patients differently or have had experiences that other doctors have not had. I sure hope your little puppy gets 100% well. Carol Jean |
He is doing better! Yorkie was doing great for a few weeks, then on boxing day he started doing head shakes and could not stand up, and would always fall. He would not respond and was not eating or drinking. I rushed him to the vet and she gave him an IV of fluids and she did blood work and he is on more medication. He was low on sugar and on protein, he also had I believe low white blood cells ( I could be mistaking) Since the vet he is so much better, eating, drinking, playing, and lots of barking. The vet had mentioned that he may have a liver disease? I dont believe so, she doesn't seem like she knows a whole lot about yorkies, Anyone have advice. |
I am so sorry to hear about your baby...but I am happy to hear that you are watching him really carefully. It sounds like he is getting better....keep us updated!! |
