Bowing Down After Eating?
 

Lately Yazmin's been bowing forward as if she's stretching after she eats? She hasn't had much of an appetite recently and I just figured it was because of the hot weather. To entice her, I've been putting her food in the palm of my hand and she will eat but that's when I noticed the bowing forward motion. Could this be food related? She's been eating BLUE Wilderness Chicken grain-free for approximately 4 months now and BLUE Longevity since she was a pup.
Has anyone else ever experienced these symptoms with your dog or have any suggestions? Please help, I'm clueless! :confused:

I would try to catch the bowing on video so you can show it to the vet. I would take her to the vet if this continues, just to play it safe.

Thank you, that's a great idea! She's doesn't seem to have any other symptoms but I'm hoping this isn't something serious for her sake.

My Chihuahua does that when he has a tummy ache.

Does your Chihuahua exhibit any other symptoms when his tummy hurts? Yazmin doesn't seem to have any other symptoms that I've noticed.

I would video tape the behavior and show the vet....I do not want to be an alarmist and try to diagnose...I am not a vet and dont want to act like I can diagnose and interpret behaviors just by hearing them...but I would have a vet made aware of it...it may be absolutely nothing, it may have something to do with other issues that need attention.

Thank you Yorkimom1, I really appreciate the suggestion. As I was saying to Sammy Mommy, I never thought to video tape her. I found my video camera last night (I don't use it often) and I will definitely be taking video of her eating and then afterwards to show my vet tomorrow. Knowing I wouldn't be able to see her vet Friday due to my work schedule, I was hoping that someone could shed some light on what I think is an odd behavior.:confused:
There was another post I read later that same evening (Royal Canin vs Blue Mountain) that made me realize Yazmin has a few other symptoms that I would've not thought one to be related to the other until now. I could be wrong so I would prefer my vet give his opinion after seeing a video but after reading the replies including your opinion on Royal Canin, I think this may be a problem with her food. Although they have been subtle changes, her eyes are beginning to tear up (I thought was from hair getting into her eyes) and I've noticed her hair breaking, especially on the top of her head and it doesn't seem to be as shiny & healthy! (I thought it was from changing shampoos & hair bands causing damage). These changes, including the loss of appetite (Again, thinking it was due to the hot weather) may have been evolving slowly over the past 4 months since I switched her to the Blue Mountain Wilderness. At this point, I think it's worth a try to change her food. I purchased Royal Canin Yorkshire yesterday and I'm hoping I chose the correct RC. Anyway, I gave her a very small amount and she litteraly wolfed it down, hardly taking time to chew! :D Hopefully slowly switching her food will solve all of the issues very soon, I'm praying! :thumbup:

Carla, I'm just seeing this now. I pray the food change does alleviate Yazmin's symptoms.

I would definitely talk with your vet about it. I don't want to alarm you, but one of my pups with AAI does that after he eats. He does it at other times, but most of the time it is right after eating. I have always thought it was because it is difficult for him to put his head down to eat?? ...or to put it back up after I guess.

I'm alarmed, in tears and quite shocked at the moment! I know your intention was to make me aware that this could be more serious than what I would have ever imagined! I would have never considered AAI! I work tomorrow but can get Yazmin in to see her vet by 4:00 PM. Actually, Yazmin will be eating dinner in a few minutes so I'm going to video tape her to see if she does it tonight. I also wanted to say that your little Sammy comes to mind when you said one of your pups, I'm assuming that's who you're referring to. My heart sinks every time I read one of your posts concerning him and I've seen him on the Site. Sammy's one little trooper! Thank you LadyJane for taking the time to reply. I'm now at least aware and can have my vet check her over thoroughly.

I did not want to upset you...now I feel terrible. :( I just have seen it with him and it stands out to me. Your baby more than likely does NOT have it...I just wanted to let you know it is important to check things out because you just never know.

Please don't feel bad, if the little dog could have this, she does need to at least know about it as a sometimes symptom in some dogs. It is hard when we hear these scary things but really, we all need to know if our dog is doing something that could reveal is has something that needs treatment. Hopefully, it isn't the worst.

Oh No, No No LadyJane, PLEASE DON'T be upset at all! I'm sincerely greatful that you have the knowledge concerning AAI that you would be able to pick up on the symptoms that someone like myself wouldn't even think of! I've read many of your posts recently where you've been so informative and VERY helpful to others who are dealing with AAI. I should have waited to get over the initial shock before replying. I'm so sorry. :( I truly appreciate your wisdom because again, I would have not known to make sure my Vet checks Yazmin out throughly tomorrow. For that, I will be forever grateful. :)

Thank you for jumping in here and hopefully made LadyJane feel better, ;) while I was off feeding Yazmin. You're absolutely right, even though it's scary to hear what might be, you're much better off informed. If it wasn't for LadyJane caring, I WOULD have not been informed enough to make my vet aware!
If it helps to make her feel better, I can say the little snot didn't bow after dinner tonight. :)
