Default My baby having a reaction to dhlp/Cor/parvo shot

Hello all. I need some help. My Lilly had her distemper and parvo shot today and has been shaking on and off and hasn't really been able to walk. She had the same reaction last year and I brought her to the vet and they gave her an antihistamine shot and she got better over a day or so. She had the same shots today an the doctor had told me to start benadryl a few days ago which I did and continue it through Thursday. We also took her back to him this afternoon when she started having the reaction but he didn't give her anything this time because she was already on the Benadryl. Fast forward to tonight she still won't really walk, she shook when I picked her up and she hasn't gone pee pee all day. Last time was this morning. I'm worried and I'm sorry but I think my vet isn't treating this reaction sufficiently. She got Benadryl at 615 tonight so why haven't I seen any improvement? I'm sorry to complain but I'm freaking out that my little baby who is usually jumping all over the place and super sprightly is a shell of herself. Anyone have any similar experiences??? Pleas share. My husband and I agreed if she doesn't improve by tomorrow morning we will take her back to the vet an make them do something.

I am so sorry your baby is having a bad reaction and I agree with you...your vet isn't taking this seriously enough. Do you have any ER clinics in your area? I think I would be checking that out, as your poor little one seems to be in terrible distress. Please check out an ER vet...I don't think I would want to wait until tomorrow. Best wishes and I'll be praying for Lilly!

Please take her to the ER right away where she can get the help she needs. Please let us know how Lilly is doing.

She is sleeping in our bed right now and when I came in I brought her some water andshe lapped it up and gave me kisses (licks) on my face. She's back to resting now and the shaking stopped a longtime ago. I think when I picked her up before I may have jostled her which aggravated the tender spot. You think I should take her to the ER vet or just watch her overnight and then take her. She just seems to be resting now but again she's not trying toget up and walk or move around like she normally does. When we put her on her pad to go pee pee she just stared at us. She did eat her dinner though so maybe that's a good sign? Ugh. I'm so conflicted. Part of me thinks she needs the ER vet as part of me thinks that because she had the same reaction last year that she will be fine with some rest and Benadryl.

Reactions to vaccines are also linked to liver shunt.

She was diagnosed with MvD back in march. We had an ultrasound done and there were no shunts and she's been on special protective liver medication sice then.

Need to seriously re-evaluate a couple of things....(1) choice of vet (2) vaccine protocols, especially in pups with liver shunts or MVD....

I 100% Agree. I'd have to seriously question a vet who would risk vaccinating a pup who's had this severe of a reaction in the past. Benadryl or No benadryl, there are ways to figure out wich vaccination the pup is reacting to , like one vaccination at a time & then remove that one from her vaccination schedule permanently.
Time to find a vet who really has your pups best interest at heart as it does NOT sound as though the one you are seeing now does, IMO.

I'm sooo sorry you are going through this with your baby!! My tiniest one had horrible vaccine reactions a couple of weeks ago, and it definitely scared me as well!! Did you end up taking your baby in to the Emergency vet? Is she doing any better today? Sending you thoughts and prayers that she starts feeling better soon!!

So we took Lilly to the ER vet and they checked her out and told us it was a normal reaction and to take her home. She slept the rest of the night and by this morning she was walking again and no shaking and she even barked like a crazy person for her food like normal. She also got off the bed during the night abd had a huge pee pee shes paper trained she also had a great poop this morning sorry to be gross She's leaps and bounds better than she was. We have to continue with the Benadryl. I'll tell you one thing I am definitely going to have my vet test for titers because I'd like to avoid this happening If possible. We still don't know why she reacts like this but she is back to normal and that's what matters to me. Thank you all for your responses.

Also, I don't know if this would be a viable option for Lilly since she has MVD, but the medicine that helped DRASTICALLY reduce the severity of Bijou's reaction was tempril-p. It is an antihistamine/steroid combo, and it made the difference in night and day for her. It is a prescription medication, and your vet would be able to tell you if this would be an appropriate treatment to reduce the inflammation she is having from the vaccines. Again, I really hope she gets better soon, and I agree with everyone else that you might have to re-evaluate your vet!
