Advantix reaction :( I have a 8 month old yorkie named Capone ..this morning I applied advantix on him about an hour later he got very sick ..very lethargic and shaking a lot he couldn't even stand up without falling over ..I gave him a bath in dawn and went to the er ..now my poor lil guy has to stay over night at the hospital to flush this out of his blood stream .. I am a absolutely heartbroken and am praying he will be ok..anyone else ever have anything similar happen?? |
had he had the advantix before and how much does he weigh, I hope he is okay |
No first time I had given it to him ..he weighs 6.5 pounds.. But I did give him the right advantix for his weight .the vet said he could be having a reaction to the tick medication that's in the advantix .i called a few hours ago and they told me he's doing a lil better not shaking as much..I'm hoping there's no permanent damage :( gonna call again in a lil bit to see how hes doing |
I am so sorry this has happened to your pup. I'm glad to see you were able to get him the help he needed as soon as you did. These products do have some nasty side effects. It can effect a pet neurologically among other terrible reactions. Some pets are effected worse than others. If you google "Advantix warniing" you will see you are not the only one this has happened to. This needs to be reported as soon as possible. This is the only way these companies can track the adverse reactions. Reporting Pesticide Incidents This is a wonderful site to get valuable info..... Pesticides, Flea Meds, Heartworm Meds and Dog Health | Truth4Dogs I hope your little one is feeling better soon. |
Thank you for the link and the well wishes I feel awful that I didn't research this before applying it. I trusted my vet and never once thought any of this would happen. Hoping he will make a full recovery and be home soon. My home is so empty without him :( |
I hope Capone is home and feeling better soon. |
I'm so sorry. I spray my lab and Ted with a mixture of apple cider vinegar and water...four years no fleas. I only do it in the hot weather. I had read horror stories of flea products; so I tried this, and it works for us. I hope your baby is better fast xo |
hi, i am sorry your little one got so sick. I hope he is feeling better. my oscar had a reaction to the advantix as well though not as severe. I put him back on revolution the next month and no problems |
I am sooo sorry for this reaction. :( A friend of mines Yorkie had just as bad a reaction to it. I just Frontline Plus on Riley the last day of each month and I use Heartgard Plus around the middle of the month. I hope he never has a reaction to either..... I hope your baby is feeling better, soon!! |
cedric does this and i cannot give him any flea/tick meds that are toxic. i hope your baby is doing better and im sorry this happened. right now for a natural remedy im trying flea treats and lavender oil mixed with water as a spary. you have to spray everytime you go out which i usually forget so that is why im trying the flea treats which have mixed reviews but i cannot risk putting any of the popular flea/tick meds on my baby. prayers for you capone to get better real soon. |
What happened to Cedric ?? Did he recover fully ?? I'm so worried Capone will have permanent damage. Thank you everyone for the well wishes.. Hopefully I'll be able to bring him home sometime today .. |
he did fully recover...he was lathargic. no shakes but he did get sick throw up and just was no where near himself. i told my vet im not trying any others on him nor will he get dosed with that kind of med again. i cannot risk having anything happen to my baby boy. i have to get his shots all done at different times hes just really sensitive. |
Good news the vet said he'll be able to come home today he is doing much better no shakes and seems to be acting like his normal self .. I will never apply this or any other flea med I will definitely look into a more natural remedy ..can't wait to see my lil guy ..thank you all for all you well wishes and kind words.. |
My Yorkie can not tolerate any flea/tic medication. He runs around in circles to the point where he is panting so hard I'm afraid he won't be able to catch his breath. This lasts about an hour. My vet thought it was just behavioral. My husbands uncle is also a vet and said to take him out and walk him so that the behavior is re-directed. This did not work. He doesn't really go outside (he is trained on wee-wee pads) so i have stopped using the medication - no matter which brand. |
