| I am just concerned, IMHO, Yorkies need to be treated differently than most other dogs, esp bigger dogs. Does your vet treat alot of small dogs? They just sound a bit 'old school' to me. If I am concerned enough to take my dog to the vet, I expect my vet to treat aggressively and nip the problem in the bud. When my pups used to get diarrhea each Spring, they were immediately put on Metronidazole, which cleared it in a day or two. The probiotics seem to be preventing it from happening... been 2 years since any of mine had diarrhea for more than one day. Also, white rice is better than bread... too much bread can block a small dog.

| I will cook some white rice now. I was just fearful of it as when he vomited, it was all the rice I gave him! I will mix a little with the chicken tomorrow morning. Thanks. To be honest, I have no clue how many small dogs my vet treats, but they are well respected here, so for now, I'll stick with them. I'm not someone who wants medication every time I visit, but of course I want a well and happy animal. If the two threads are bothering anyone, of course one can be closed! Right, I'm off to cook rice! |

| I agree with Kathy meds should have been given vomiting and diahrea together can quickly lead to dehydration. I know you trust and like your vets but sometimes they need a nudge from us since we are our dogs best advocates

| Oddly, I sort of see it the other way! I trust a vet more if they don't give lots of meds, as any vet could easily prescribe lots of medicine which I would pay for. In a weird way, when they're not 'using' me to make more money, I sort of trust that they really don't think the animal needs it. |

I agree with you about medicine, but sometimes it is necessary.... if this is a bacterial enteritis, everyday the bacteria will be multiplying, so when he finally is medicated, he will need to be on meds longer as the problem had gotten worse. (just something to consider, not trying to bug you!)

| I'm on constant poo watch! I'll take him out later, and hopefully it will have a shape again, like the last one. Never have I looked at so much poo! Really appreciate everyone's input, even if I don't follow all advice, I am reading and digesting all of it! Promise! |

| Good Morning, I hope it's a good one for you both. I understand the trust you have in your vet but what has been said about small animals is so true. Their care in an entirely different ballgame. We have a couple vets here that specialize their care to only small animals and people come from everywhere with their pets. I thought I knew most all with a 14 year old but found out grapes are poisonous. Don't worry about the second thread, I can see why you would want one in emergency. My only advise today would be if he is still having loose stools , don't trust and get him in with as much of a stool sample as you can get. Hope the tail is wagging. Poor baby has been through so much.

| Thanks for checking in with Ellington! He slept through, and no accidents so that was nice. But oddly, in a vaguely ironic way, we haven't had any poo at all since yesterday! Lots of walking, and peeing. So I'm still on poo watch, but I'm hoping this is a more positive sign. |
