Marley had a Rabies shot on monday & has been very sick! She was her usual self through out the day fell asleep after her walk and woke up fussy then started to breath heavy, was whimpering as if she was in pain & trembling. Her eyes were teary, she kept tipping over while sitting & was very lethargic. I waited 4 hrs but she got worse & threw up (clear/white mucus). I ended up taking her to the emergency room, had blood work done and a full phys. as well as a shot for the pain The vet told me her back, spine & head were bothering her & suggested i take x-rays. We got home she threw up again but this time it was food, fell asleep & seemed semi-normal although she doesnt eat her reg food or drink water. she was sleepy the whole day but seemed to be feeling a bit better. Last night it happened again! she can barelky walk! Dont know what to do need ADVICE!!!!:aimeeyork |
Did they see anything on X-ray? If she was just given a pain injection, she can have some more drugs by now. Some pain post vaccines can be normal. If she is in pain in areas where the injection wasn't oven, and especially because the vet thinks there may be spinal involvement, the X-ray couldn't hurt if you haven't done it already. Unfortunately these kinds of issues don't always show up with X-ray alone, so if it continues they will likely refer you out. Did they say what you should do next? |
If the dog is having a reaction, you should contact the vet right away. |
The rabies vaccine is the most potent vaccines concerning adverse reactions. This is what one of the worlds leading researchers says about them...... “Rabies is the vaccine most associated with adverse reactions because it’s so potent,” says renowned veterinarian Dr. Jean Dodds. “We have a lot of bad reactions, including fatal ones. They usually occur within two to three weeks after vaccination, although they can appear up to 45 days later. Because the rabies vaccine is a neurogenic protein, meaning it affects the nervous system, what you will often see is seizures or seizure-like disorders like stumbling, ataxia, dementia, and some demyelination, where the animals become wobbly and don’t have proper motor skills. You can also have an autoimmune-like destruction of tissues, skin, blood, joints, the liver or kidneys.” Dr. Dodds adds that animals already ill with immune-related diseases such as cancer can be even more negatively affected. “Often, this is the last thing that causes the animal’s demise.” It could very well be something else going on with your pup besides the vaccine. Either way the pup needs to be seen by a vet who can determine if it's an adverse reaction or some other issue. But the vaccine has to be considered too. I hope your able to find out what is causing this, it sounds serious. |
