I believe Max is back to 100% -- barking, drinking water and eating hard food again, good poopies. Makes me think the stuff on the CET chew irritated or burned his throat and/or he snorted something up his nose. The exorcist like sneezes seemed to have helped him.

Thank you. Such a bummer about the chews. Dad bought the bag Saturday morning at our regular vet's office because it was raining and the guys couldn't go outside. No food items in our boutique, lol.

So glad that Max is ok! Mimi sometimes has these 'exorcist sneezes' & I had to lolll sometimes she sneezes & scares Momo!

LOL, I don't blame Momo! They are scary, but I'm glad to hear that they are sort of normal. Max hit his head on the leg of my chair on the second one. :eek: He was lying in his doggy bed when it happened.

Back at the vet today
 
A week after our trip to the ER, Max is still having fits of hard swallowing when he barks. He can walk a brisk 3 miles without problem and everything else is normal.

I took him back to the doctor today and he gave us a couple meds to treat infection and inflammation. If this doesn't solve the problem, the doctor is going to sedate Max to take a deeper look into his throat.

Max and I would appreciate positive thoughts that the meds will do the trick.

I dont know how I didn see this thread however Im hoping the meds kick in and Max starts improving, Im keeping him in my prayers

Poor little Max! I'm sorry to hear he's still having problems. Did the doctor think allergies were a possibility?

Give the boys an extra huggin for me.

I will. :) The doctor said Max could have the doggy equivalent of a cold (and that this a source of debate about whether or not is possible for a dog), or he could have swallowed something that irritated his throat. I'm not explaining this as well as he did, but he did not mention allergies.

Sending good thoughts to Mr. Max. Part of me wouldn't be surprised if there was a doggie cold going around...bc the human colds going around are just awful here in AZ! Keep us posted on the little punkin' butt. :)

Awh Kristin.. Maxman still swallowing hard after barking. Ummmm. Esophageal spasms might cause this. What about after eating? Does he have hard swallowing then?

Thank you Gail. :) He eats and swallows without problem, even his hard kibble. It's just the barking that triggers the swallowing and gulping, and he sounds like he is phlegmy when he does it.

I am saddened to read that Max is having problems with his throat again. I hope that it heals quickly and that your boy is feeling back to his wonderful self very soon.

Checking back I was sad to see he\'s had more trouble. I sure hope the simple treatment does the trick and he stays fine after that. He\'s still in my prayers and hoping he\'s back to himself very, very soon.
