I am so glad Cali is doing better. YT prayers are the best. Those cupcakes are adorable. |
So glad to hear Cali is doing so much better! Continued prayers for her total recovery! |
Hi, I'm new- was looking around (googling) for some info while I wait to hear from Dr. that Louie (my 10 month old, male yorkie) has successfully come through surgery. I am glad to have found you! Louie started with an occasional yelp and seemed a little unsteady in the rear- told it was patella- grade 1 and surgery not recommended yet. Anyway, you know how you know your puppy- we were out of state for a month and one morning he wouldn't get up. Went to vet there & she thought muscle strain, NSAIDs for 5 days. We got back home and he just seemed worse. Looked like a shepherd with hip dysplasia- back end dropping low, would rock to sit, limping, ANYWAY (sorry so long) asked my vet here to please look at him further- turns out he has Leggs calves perthes and is having surgery today. I wish I'd pushed harder and requested hip X-rays when I had that 'gut feeling' that this was more than a patella- simply because he wouldn't have had to hurt as long. Should be hearing from vet soon- can't believe how anxious I feel. I've never had a small dog before and I just really, really love him!! |

UPDATE: Just wanted to let everyone know that Cali is developing stiff legs again. Her Range of Motion is difficult to do and she fights me on it. Her last med change was 9 days ago when we weaned her Valium from 3X/day to 2X/day. Also, I'm going to attempt some of her Rehab at home (since I have a treadmill) so please wish me luck. She is still walking but the stiffness makes it difficult for her. Oh yes, she got a haircut so I will try to take a picture and post soon. She looks like a teeny-tiny girl now with all that hair gone. Her head has a "bob" cut; she's stylin'...she looks soooo cute! |

Did your vet say anything about going back to the original dosing of the valium? |
Awww, poor Cali. I'm sorry that she's backsliding :( Prayers going up for her and for you too:love: |

Cali continues to pursue normalcy. She is in great spirits and isn't in pain. I'm not sure if the decrease in Valium or the therapy for building her back muscles is what is causing the increased stiffness. I plan to continue monitoring her and we see her vet regularly so I can always ask him. |

Come on Cali you can do this. Regulating of meds is usually a hit and miss until you find the one course that workds for her...Keep the faith and keep us updated...will continue praying for Cali! Team Cali all the way! |
I was wondering if you'd consulted a holistic vet at all? I have heard wonderful things about their treatments (in conjunction with traditional treatments, of course) such as acupuncture, massage, chiropractic etc. Continuing prayers that your baby girl makes a full recovery:love: :hands: |

4 Attachment(s) UPDATE: Cali is still having stiffness but I must say...she is one happy little pup. I have included pics below of her cute haircut. I think she is so happy b/c she has short hair for the summer and she knows she is home (versus in ICU at MSU). It's like she has a new appreciation for her family and her home.
