| Cookie is losing protein.... Oh, please keep my sweet Cookie in your thoughts and prayers. I am so worried about her. She had been eating slowly for the past week and I had mentioned it to my vet. I had checked her mouth to see if anything was going on there....and it was fine. There were no other symptoms...but it was unsettling to me. She refused to eat at all yesterday afternoon and someone during the night had had a lose stool which I could not tag to anyone.....when she turned her nose up to food I figured it must have been her. So....I called the vet and took her right in. She had an injection for nausea....she clearly had some gas...but nothing that looked way out of whack. Stools were loose, so she put her on metronidazole. Cookie looked fine...acted fine. Anyway.....I started to walk out and then it hit me that I had received a notice last week that she was due for her yearly labs...heartworm test and all....so I asked for them to that (thank God I thought of it). First thing this morning I received a telephone call from my vet's partner. Cookie's total protein is super low! The low normal is 5 and she is 3. I am just beside myself right now. They kept her and started IV fluids and hetastarch. He definitely feels this is a GI issue. All of her other levels are fine...and she clearly has GI symproms. They can get hypoalbuminemia from diarrhea, but she has not had it that long; so needless to say I am really worried. Cookie is my healthy girl...this is just so shocking to me. I asked him if I should perhaps take her to A&M but he feels we need to rule things out first. I cannot stand this...I hate not knowing what is going on.

| Just got a call. He did xrays on Cookie and called A&M to speak with them about her. They said to stop all treatment and bring her up there on Monday. They are pretty sure it is either IBD or Intestinal lymphangiectasia ....or other worse things. Since she does not have fluid build up yet and problems breathing, they feel she will probably be stable over the weekend. The plan is a work up on Monday and admission...and then on Tuesday they will do a scope and other testing. I am not sure I am even typing all of this in logical order or in a way that makes sense. My brain is fried right now. I have so much on my plate this coming week...my son is getting married and now I will have to ask him to pupsit for two days. When it rains it pours. I just want my Cookie to be ok.

| What a whirlwind day this has been. A&M could not see her until Wed...and then the testing would be done on Thurs. Just not comfortable waiting. Put a call in to the specialists in Houston. A very highly recommended Internal Med Vet just called me and he is going to see Cookie Tuesday morning at 9:15 AM. Since we don't know how long this may have been brewing or even what the progression might be; he is going to make arrangements for her to be a direct admission over the week end if she turns bad. I am to watch her closely for breathing problems or edema in her belly which would indicate fluid build up. He does think this is PLE and plans on doing an ultrasound...and possible an endoscopy and biopsies. I am sick over this, but at least relieved that there is a plan in motion. Hopefully the weekend will be uneventful.
